NFL World Is Surprised After Latest News About Eagles WR A.J. Brown

Eagles general manager Howie Roseman is known to be very aggressive and likes to make trades as the league’s new year kicks off. Brown has been with the Eagles since 2022, but many NFL insiders have floated the idea that he might be trade fodder headed into the new season.

According to Jeff McLane (via Inquirer), this strategy used by the Eagles consists of attempting to set a price much higher than the WR’s actual value: “One NFL executive said he heard the Eagles were seeking a return that included both a first- and second-round draft pick. Whether accurate or not, it’s a price tag already being floated within league circles,” said McLane.

Even though the franchise has shown it is willing to let Brown go only for a very high price, the fact that it has signaled the WR is available on the market has sparked an astonishing reaction in the NFL World.

“Winds of change whispering to howling…” said Josina Anderson.

Nick Cattles was more direct in his reaction: “This gets written when a team knows they have to move on and they’re not likely going to get what they want in return.”

This update has also sparked speculation about where the WR might end up in the league. Samuel Njoku has hinted that Brown will be heading to the New England Patriots, given the situation with the Eagles.

The narrative that Brown could join the Patriots was fueled by comments from New England head coach Mike Vrabel. Brown spent his first few seasons in the league playing for Vrabel with the Tennessee Titans, and Vrabel told the media during the combine that he would be interested.

Geoff Ulrich, from SI Now, is betting that the Kansas City Chiefs will make the bold move.

Some rumors suggest that Philadelphia would only close the deal if it could use Brown (who ranks No. 21 in the PFSN WR Impact metric with a B- grade) as a bargaining chip to move up significantly in the draft and select new elite talent.

However, one of the biggest obstacles to any trade is the impact on the salary cap. Brown signed a lucrative extension (estimated at $96 million for three years in 2024, via Spotrac).

If the Eagles trade him before certain contractual dates, they could face a dead cap of more than $40 million, making the move financially painful.
