The New England Patriots came into the 2025 NFL season with the expectation that they had found their quarterback of the future in Drake Maye. Earning a Pro Bowl nod as an alternate in his rookie season, Maye had shown flashes of excellence in his debut campaign. As a result, the organization went all in on trying to build the roster around him to ensure that success could follow in his sophomore season.
Through seven weeks, it is hard to argue that the attempt could have gone any better than it already has. Thanks to some electric performances, he has the Patriots at the top of the AFC East with a 5-2 record, surpassing even the Buffalo Bills with MVP Josh Allen. Earning some MVP buzz of his own, his performance in Week 7 was legitimately history-making as he accomplished a feat that even Tom Brady couldn’t during his time in New England.
Drake Maye Makes Tom Brady Surpassing History Against the Tennessee Titans
The statistical production from Maye to begin the year has been unparalleled. After a rough first week performance against the Las Vegas Raiders, he has truly come into his own as an elite talent.
In the six games since, he has had a minimum of 200 or more passing yards, with a passer rating above 100. Against Tennessee, he took that up a notch by registering a passer rating of 135.9, while throwing for 222 yards and two touchdowns.
However, it wasn’t the statistical production that truly made Maye stand out above Brady. Instead, he beat the seven-time Super Bowl champion at the thing he was the greatest at: winning.
In his legendary tenure with the Patriots, Brady never won three games on the road in three consecutive weeks in the regular season. With three consecutive road games an extreme rarity in the NFL schedule, the number of opportunities to make it happen was significantly less. However, he did make it a reality during his Super Bowl run with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
But it wasn’t something he accomplished in the regular season with the Patriots. Even if, on face value, it might seem like nothing, the accomplishment speaks volumes about the year Maye is having in 2025.
Patrick Mahomes and Dan Marino were the only QBs in NFL history to post six straight games with at least 200 passing yards and a passer rating over 100 while under the age of 24.
Now, they have company.

Coming together as a legitimate MVP candidate, he has made his team a viable playoff contender in the AFC. After winning just four games last season, the turnaround has been meteoric to begin the year.
After six games, Maye ranked second on PFSN’s QB Impact, a number that might go even higher after this performance. With an extremely soft schedule the rest of the way, the hype for the Patriots is only going to increase, as long as the sophomore quarterback continues his excellence.
