With the New England Patriots, Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel is watching his players closely. One of them, always in the spotlight, is Patriots quarterback Drake Maye.
Maye led the Patriots into Super Bowl 60 as New England defeated the Denver Broncos 10-7 in a cold, snowy AFC Championship Game at Empower Field at Mile High in Denver. Now, though, Maye’s health has become a story.
What’s Latest on Patriots QB Drake Maye’s Health?
Right now, Maye is dealing with a right shoulder injury. While it’s something Patriots’ coaches and fans should pay attention to, Vrabel admits his level of concern about Maye’s health isn’t too high right now.
On Thursday morning, Vrabel met reporters to take a few questions about his team. Reporter Karen Guregian of MassLive Sports asked Vrabel about Maye’s health and whether he was concerned about it.
“Not much,” Vrabel said. “I try not to have a whole lot of concern. I just want to try and prepare the football team and make sure everybody’s ready and that we all have a plan. And that we all have a plan.”
“Not to surprise anybody and make sure our guys are focused on the first- and second-down plan,” Vrabel said. “I know … it’s trying to map out the week here, week and a half and not look at the end of it, but focus on what we can do today and try to learn the opponent on first and second down.”

Vrabel came to New England and took over as head coach after Jerod Mayo was fired after one season. He spent a number of seasons as the Tennessee Titans’ head coach before getting fired himself after the 2023-24 NFL season. Vrabel took a season off, then returned to the team where he played during his NFL career.
Maye was the Patriots’ first-round draft choice (No. 3 overall) by New England in the 2024 NFL Draft. In the regular season, Maye threw for 4,394 yards, 31 touchdowns, and eight interceptions. He had a QBR of 77.1, too.

According to the PFSN NFL QB Impact metrics, measured through the regular season, Maye had an impact score of 91.1 and graded out at A-. Only San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy graded higher in the QB metrics.
Maye has plenty of time to get better, though, as Super Bowl 60 between the Patriots and Seahawks will be played at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif., on February 8 at 6:30 p.m. ET.
