Dontayvion Wicks Injury Update: Will the Packers WR Play in Week 15?

One of the primary concerns is the status of wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks, who is currently working through an ankle injury.

The Green Bay Packers are riding high after their biggest win of the season, defeating Caleb Williams and the Chicago Bears in their Week 14 game at Lambeau Field. The victory pushed Green Bay to 9-3-1 and placed them atop the NFC North.

But with another meeting against Chicago looming in Week 16 at Soldier Field, after they meet the Denver Broncos on the road, staying healthy has become the team’s top priority. One of the primary concerns is the status of wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks, who is currently working through an ankle injury.

Will Dontayvion Wicks Play in Week 15 Against the Denver Broncos?

Coach Matt LaFleur offered a measured update on Dontayvion Wicks’ availability, saying that the second-year wideout remains day-to-day. Wicks has been dealing with the ankle issue since Green Bay’s Thanksgiving game in Detroit.

Although he has fought to stay on the field, the injury forced him to play minimal snaps in the Packers’ Week 14 win over the Chicago Bears.

“He’s been battling through that, and I would say it is day-to-day,” LaFleur said of Wicks, via heavy.com. “He was limited in practice, so we’ll see how he progresses. But certainly we need him out there.”

LaFleur highlighted just how valuable Wicks has been to the Packers’ offense, pointing to a specific early game route against Bears cornerback Jaylon Johnson as an example of the impact.

“He’s a guy, you could see it early in the routes he was running. There was one in particular, which might’ve been the first play of the game, where Jaylon Johnson is pressed on him, and his ability to get a guy to move off the spot is pretty impressive.”

Even so, Green Bay has benefited from the improved health across its receiving corps. Christian Watson is playing some of the most dynamic football of his career, coming out again as Jordan Love’s top downfield threat.

Jayden Reed, who missed recent time, returned to action in Week 14, and rookie Matthew Golden also played snaps against Chicago. With these pieces trending upward, the Packers have managed to absorb Wicks’ absence.

Before the injury, Wicks was in the middle of a strong sophomore campaign. Through 10 appearances, he has recorded 26 receptions for 307 yards and two touchdowns.

His breakout performance came in Week 13 against the Detroit Lions, when he hauled in six passes for 94 yards and two scores. PFSN WR Impact metric gives him a score of 72.6 with a C- rating. He ranks 58th out of all wide receivers this season.

Wicks has become a trusted option for Love, especially as injuries forced the Packers to rotate receivers throughout the season. For now, Wicks’ status for Week 15 is unknown. His limited participation in practice suggests progress, but the team will monitor him throughout the week before determining whether he can suit up.
