Dolphins Expected to Make Shocking Tyreek Hill Decision

A new report suggests that the Miami Dolphins could make a shocking decision on Tyreek Hill after the 2025 season.

After a decade-long run as one of the most dynamic playmakers in the NFL, Tyreek Hill suffered a season-ending knee injury in Week 5 of the 2025 season.

At 31 years old, who is ranked 4th this season in PFSN’s WR impact ranking, the injury raises questions about the speedy wide receiver’s future in the NFL. One NFL insider released some information regarding Hill’s NFL future.

Will Tyreek Hill Be Released at the End of the 2025 Season?

“League sources expect the Dolphins to release Tyreek Hill after the season,” said CBS Sports NFL insider Jonathan Jones.

Hill signed a three-year extension worth $90 million last offseason, and he is under contract till 2027. The former Kansas City wide receiver was in his fourth year with the Dolphins, and if the reports are true, he may have played his last snap with Miami.

“League sources view it as next to impossible the Dolphins would guarantee such money when Hill won’t be able to pass a physical at that point, meaning Miami would release the receiver before any 2026 dollar becomes guaranteed,” Jones added.

How quickly Hill recovers from the dislocated knee remains to be seen, but Hill and his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, expect him to return for the 2026 season. While that expectation could be correct, it’s unclear how the injury will affect his play. As a player built on speed and athleticism, the injury could impact those things, especially when factoring in that he will be 32 at the start of the 2026 season.

In 2023, he had the best season of his career, catching 119 passes while leading the league with 1799 receiving yards and 13 receiving touchdowns. However, he regressed in 2024, failing to make the Pro Bowl for the first time in his career and failing to reach 1,000 receiving yards. Numerous factors could have contributed to that, including a wrist injury he played through and Tua Tagovailoa missing time due to injury.

However, while those may have contributed to his down season, it’s hard to ignore that he had his worst year since his rookie season at 30.

While he started to look more like himself in the first few weeks of 2025, the sample size was small. In week two, he broke a stretch of one year without a catch of over 30 yards, which is surprising because that is one of the things he is known best for. Even if he had returned to his prior form, this injury adds another obstacle to returning to that form once again.

Despite the uncertainty of his return from injury, Hill’s upside is still immense. Players such as Stefon Diggs, Chris Godwin, and others have proven that it is possible to secure a contract despite a murky injury timeline for a veteran wide receiver. They both signed new deals this past offseason.

If Hill is released, he will be an interesting name to watch during free agency, as several teams could look to take a flier on a high-upside veteran. Meanwhile, for the Dolphins, his release would free up many targets for Jaylen Waddle, Malik Washington, and De’Von Achane while freeing up cap space to improve the roster.
