Chicago Bears general manager Ryan Poles spoke to reporters on Thursday to address the deal to trade wide receiver DJ Moore to the Buffalo Bills. He opened up about his son telling him of his displeasure with the trade move.
Ryan Poles’ Son Displeased With DJ Moore Trade
The Bears are coming off a good season, and Poles wants to make moves to help their chances of competing in the NFC Championship Game and the Super Bowl. Chicago’s last Super Bowl appearance was Super Bowl 41, where they lost to the Peyton Manning-led Indianapolis Colts, 29-17.
One of his major moves of the offseason thus far, albeit surprising, was trading Moore and a 2026 fifth-round pick to the Bills in exchange for a 2026 second-round pick. Poles spoke with reporters Thursday to discuss the team’s free agency moves so far. Poles mentioned that his son was unhappy about the trade deal.
In speaking about the Moore trade, which was posted by Ari Meirov, Poles said, “I knew that was going to be tough for our organization. I’ve mentioned this before that my son is a passionate fan of the Chicago Bears.” He added that his son was “not very happy with me at all.”

Poles added that Moore sent his son a video telling him not to be mad at his father. He said, “I think it’s cool DJ sent him a video, telling him not to be mad at dad, that it’s just part of the business.” Moore made a professional and classy gesture. Even on his way out of Chicago, he made sure to reach out to Poles’ son.
When Poles became general manager in 2022, Moore was one of the big acquisitions the following year. Poles made the deal with the Carolina Panthers to give away the first overall pick while getting the ninth and 61st overall picks in 2023, a 2024 first-round pick that ended up becoming the No. 1 overall pick, a 2025 second-round pick, and Moore.
Per PFSN’s WR Impact metrics, Moore caught 50 receptions on 85 targets in the 2025 season. He also had 682 receiving yards and grabbed six receiving touchdowns. He caught the game-winning pass in overtime against the Green Bay Packers in a crucial Week 16 matchup, 22-16, after overcoming a 10-point deficit in the fourth quarter.
Although the Bears made the playoffs, their postseason run was cut short in the NFC Divisional Round in overtime against the Los Angeles Rams, 20-17. Although Moore is no longer suiting up for the Bears, he did the right thing by reaching out to Poles’ son to tell him not to be mad at his father.
