What Happened to Dillon Gabriel? A Look at Browns QB’s Return Timeline After Absence in Week 12

Latest update on Browns QB Dillon Gabriel’s injury status and when he could return as Shedeur Sanders prepares for his first NFL start.

Cleveland Browns quarterback Dillon Gabriel is set to miss the Week 12 game against the Las Vegas Raiders due to an injury he suffered last week. Let’s take a look at when the Browns’ 2025 third-round pick could return to action.

When Will Browns QB Dillon Gabriel Return?

Gabriel hasn’t been playing great as the Browns’ QB. Still, he was doing decent at his job, completing 59.2% of his passes for 937 yards (117.1 per game), with seven TDs and two INTs. He is currently ranking number 37 on the PFSN’s QB Impact.

Thanks to his performance and Cleveland’s struggling journey so far this season, fans had been demanding that Shedeur Sanders replace Gabriel for quite some time. Their wishes were met, but in an unwanted condition, in Week 11 during their match against the Baltimore Ravens, when the QB had to leave the field with a concussion.

QBs, as usual, take too much credit and criticism for the game’s result. Similarly, Gabriel had been enduring his fair share of heat online from fans who thought bringing Sanders would magically solve the problems.

On Monday, when Sanders had to suddenly enter the field to lead the offense, he seemed overwhelmed, completing just four of his 16 passes while also throwing a pick. There was also much drama over how unprepared Coach Prime’s son looked, but that’s a topic for a different article.

The weak performance and the 16-23 loss to the Ravens made fans realise that solving the Browns’ problems would require much more than just changing the QB. Now, as the fans’ complaints about Gabriel are cooling down, many are wondering when the 24-year-old player will return to the field.

Concussions can sometimes take a long time, so we can’t say with certainty if the Browns’ third-round pick will take the field even in Week 13. But because he had limited practice on Friday, it’s likely the QB is much better now and could take back his job against the San Francisco 49ers on Nov. 30.

Sanders Shedeur To Make His First NFL Start

In Gabriel’s absence, Sanders is set to make his first start on Sunday against the Raiders. Both the Browns and the Raiders are having a rough season, and they will be entering Allegiant Stadium with 2-8 records. While most fans have already lost hope, the postseason probabilities for these teams aren’t zero yet.

This game is going to be super special for Sanders. Not only is he going to make his first start, but it’s also an opportunity for him to prove his worth. If he manages to impress everyone, he could secure his job as leader even if Gabriel returns in Week 13.
