35-TD RB Floated As Seahawks’ Trade Target To Fill Kenneth Walker III’s Void

De'Von Achane trade rumors suggest the Miami Dolphins running back could fill the Seattle Seahawks void left by Kenneth Walker III.

With the Seattle Seahawks coming off a Super Bowl win, their fantastic defense led the way in most games. However, even though their defense was amazing, their offense was pretty great too. There is a playmaker that Seattle could add alongside Jaxon Smith-Njigba that could make the team better.

How De’Von Achane Fits the Seattle Seahawks Perfectly

Seahawks running back Kenneth Walker III left in free agency, as he signed with the Kansas City Chiefs. In the absence of Walker, there is a chance that the Seahawks could land current Miami Dolphins running back De’Von Achane.

According to Bleacher Report writer Gary Davenport, “It has been a fire sale in Miami this offseason. Wide receiver Jaylen Waddle was traded to Denver. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and edge-rusher Bradley Chubb were moved as well.”

The team does view Achane as more valuable, but Davenport adds, “If a team comes to the Dolphins with a beefier offer, though, [Jon-Eric] Sullivan would likely reconsider his stance on Achane.”

Achane would also be a scheme fit in Miami. Achane has played each of his seasons under former Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel.

Before becoming the head coach for the Dolphins, McDaniel was with the San Francisco 49ers. While with the 49ers, McDaniel held several roles, including offensive coordinator and run game coordinator.

The Seahawks’ new offensive coordinator is Brian Fleury, who is coming from San Francisco, where he was the run game coordinator. So, if Achane were to go to Seattle, he would be very familiar with the scheme and terminology, which could lead to a smooth transition.

If the Seahawks traded for Achane, they would also have the best running back in the division, according to PFSN’s RB Impact Metric. Last year, Achane got a B+ grade, which ranked him second out of all running backs in the NFL.

This would also mean that the Seahawks would not only have the second-highest graded running back, but they would also have the second-highest graded receiver in Smith-Njigba, according to PFSN’s WRi.

Achane will be a different type of running back than Walker. Walker was more of a power and a bruiser back, while Achane is more iconic for his speed, elusiveness, and agility. However, despite being a different back archetype, Achane is highly effective.

Achane’s lowest yards per carry in his career is 4.5, with the mean being 5.6. Compare this to Walker, whose lowest yards per carry was 3.7, with a mean of 4.3. So, there is a case to be made that Achane would be an upgrade over Walker.

Achane has had 35 total touchdowns, about 11 per season, showing that he is not just a great runner but can finish the job as well in the red zone.

Overall, if the Seahawks can land Achane, it would be a huge get for the team.
