The Miami Dolphins and Washington Commanders faced off at Santiago Bernabéu for the NFL’s first game in Madrid, Spain. However, both teams struggled mightily on offense.
Driving down the field late in the fourth quarter, the Dolphins were knocking on the door of the end zone with a first and goal scenario from the Commanders’ six-yard line. After two rushes from running back De’Von Achane, the Dolphins back took another goal-line carry but would go down after the play.
What Happened to Miami Dolphins RB De’Von Achane?
Achane was the featured back on the late fourth-quarter drive after a huge first quarter against the Commanders in Week 11. 12 and 18-yard runs set the Dolphins up deep in Washington’s territory. After a couple of runs within the ten-yard line, Achane took another carry from Washington’s 1-yard line.
He wasn’t able to punch it into the end zone, but more importantly, as he was brought down by defensive lineman Javon Kinlaw, the Dolphins running back would go down with what the Dolphins would call a back injury.

He did return on Miami’s final drive of the fourth quarter, catching a 22-yard pass from quarterback Tua Tagovailoa as the Dolphins failed to gain enough yards to set them up for a game-winning field goal. Achane crossed 100 yards rushing in overtime as he turned 21 carries into 120 yards, along with five receptions for 45 yards through the air.
Achane has been superb all season. This would be a devastating loss for fantasy managers if it proves to be serious. Given that Achane was able to walk off under his own power, hopefully it is not.
If Achane has to miss time, fantasy managers should not immediately assume it will be Ollie Gordon as the lead back. Jaylen Wright actually entered this game before Gordon did. The most likely outcome would be a committee that favors Gordon. Regardless of the split, though, Gordon would undoubtedly be the goal line back.
According to PFSN’s RB Impact metric, Achane is ranked fourth among the running backs in the league this season. Through ten games this season, Achane has turned 143 carries for 780 yards and five touchdowns. He’s also caught 49 passes for 325 yards and an additional four touchdowns.
Achane has been the driving force behind Miami’s offensive success this season. It’s great he was able to make his way back into the game, as any time without him this season would likely tank the offense’s production.
