San Francisco’s Week 5 overtime win over Los Angeles featured late-game drama and a fumble at the goal line. Two days later, the trash talk continued when 49ers cornerback Deommodore Lenoir aimed at Kyren Williams on social media.
What Did Deommodore Lenoir Say About Kyren Williams?
The 49ers edged the Rams 26-23 in overtime at SoFi Stadium, but the real fireworks came two days later on Instagram Live. Lenoir went after Williams for taunting him during the game, calling out the running back’s “fat mouth” in a video that quickly made the rounds on social media.
“He’s got a fat mouth. He shouldn’t have been talking. He pointed at me when he scored.”
The trash talk stemmed from earlier in the contest when Williams found the end zone twice as a receiver and pointed at Lenoir after scoring.
But Williams’s last laugh was snatched away when he fumbled at the 1-yard line with 1:07 left in regulation. Rookie defensive lineman Alfred Collins forced and recovered that fumble, wiping out what would have been a go-ahead touchdown for Los Angeles.
Williams’ night got worse in overtime. After San Francisco took the lead on an Eddy Piñeiro field goal, the Rams running back got stuffed on fourth-and-1 to end the game. That’s when Lenoir decided to return the favor on social media.
The Rams running back accepted responsibility after the game, telling reporters he felt he let his team down. Head coach Sean McVay called his overtime decision to go for it on fourth down “a poor decision” while praising his team’s effort.
Why Are Kyren Williams’ Fumbles Becoming a Problem?
Williams put up solid numbers against San Francisco with 14 carries for 65 yards and eight receptions for 66 yards with two receiving touchdowns. But those stats don’t tell the whole story of a night defined by critical errors in a three-point loss.
The fumbling issues reveal a troubling pattern for the 25-year-old running back. Since the start of 2023, Williams has lost seven fumbles, the most among running backs in that span. Through just five games in 2025, he already has two lost fumbles. He’s tied with Jahmyr Gibbs for the NFL lead with 35 total touchdowns over that same period, but the turnovers keep undermining his production.
Williams remains valuable despite the ball security concerns. PFSN’s RB Impact metric gives him an 82.4 score and a B- grade through five games, ranking him ninth among running backs. His dual-threat ability and heavy workload make him one of the league’s most productive backs when he holds onto the football.
That production is why Los Angeles gave Williams a three-year, $33 million extension in August, making him the seventh-highest-paid running back in the league. The contract reflects the organization’s faith in his abilities, but ball security remains a glaring concern that coach Sean McVay and the Rams will need to address.
Both teams will look ahead to their Week 10 rematch in San Francisco. The 49ers improved to 4-1 with the win and visit Tampa Bay next, while the 3-2 Rams head to Baltimore.
