The Colorado Buffaloes have been one of the best stories in college football over the last two years. After winning a singular game in 2022, the arrival of Deion Sanders as head coach and a mind-blowing 50 new signings in the offseason paved the way for a remarkable turnaround.
In 2024, they won nine games, developed a superstar quarterback in Shedeur Sanders, and housed the Heisman Trophy winner in Travis Hunter. As a result, the two names have skyrocketed up draft boards. But their current ranking isn’t high enough for the two-time Super Bowl Champion.

Deion Sanders Predicts Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter’s Draft Positioning
Right now, both Sanders and Hunter are in a complex tie. While the quarterback remains neck and neck with Cam Ward as the best available QB in the draft class, the reigning Heisman Trophy winner is battling Abdul Carter for the unofficial best player title, period.
As a result, both names remain unsure of their status for the NFL Draft and where they could potentially land. However, if their head coach is to be believed, the answer is as straightforward as it gets.
At Colorado’s Pro Day, Sanders spent a lot of time with the media and made his stance on his two superstars crystal clear. “It’s tremendous. They should be going 1-2 [in the draft]. That’s the way I feel about it. They are the two best players in this draft.”
And, thanks to another comment he made after a viral meeting between the legendary NFL cornerback and the Cleveland Browns front office, it looks like at least half of that statement is coming to fruition.
Meeting co-owner Jimmy Haslam as part of the contingency, Sanders added, “[I] spoke to the owner, truly delightful. He was engaging. I think one of those guys is going to be there [at No. 2].”
He is already promising that his son will alter the course of whichever franchise drafts him while simultaneously vowing an even better year for Hunter at the NFL level, playing both sides of the ball. But at the end of the day, the decision rests in the hands of the teams.
However, the latest mock draft from PFSN doesn’t buy into Sanders’ comments. Neither player is selected in the first two picks, with Hunter falling to the New York Giants at third, whereas Sanders drops to the second round for the Cleveland Browns to take with pick 33.
