Deion Sanders drew attention in Week 16 of the NFL when CBS Sports cameras spotted him watching his son, Shedeur Sanders, play for the Cleveland Browns against the Buffalo Bills at Huntington Bank Field.
Frustration with head coach Kevin Stefanski this season has many hoping Deion could be talked into joining the NFL. Now one NFL analyst weighs in.
Does Deion Sanders Have What It Takes to Coach an NFL Team?
The Browns are considering a potential coaching change due to dissatisfaction with Stefanski’s recent decisions. However, Browns fans are also not embracing the idea of the Buffaloes head coach taking the helm of an NFL team.
NFL Insider Josina Anderson highlighted Deion’s presence in the press box during the Bills vs. Browns game and questioned whether he might soon be considered for an NFL head coaching role: “Will he get consideration to coach in the NFL sooner rather than later?” Anderson asked.

It is worth noting that Deion finished the 2025 season with a 3-9 record, eliminating any chance of qualifying for a bowl game that year. Shedeur Sanders’ departure leaves a significant gap for the Buffaloes, who have yet to secure a replacement quarterback.
Meanwhile, several coaching staff members were dismissed following a string of losses. As a result of these circumstances, reactions on social media to Anderson’s questioning were particularly negative.
One fan posted, “Respectfully…” with a picture of Colorado’s 2025 record, which includes their 3-9 overall record and their 1-8 conference record.

“He went 1-8 in conference play this year? In no world is he remotely close to a NFL head coach,” posted another.

Browns Continue to Deal with Shedeur Sanders’ Inconsistency
With time off from the Buffaloes and no NFL commitments, Deion watched his son play for the Browns, a team desperately seeking quarterback stability. This season, four quarterbacks competed for the starting role, which initially went to Joe Flacco but was later awarded to rookie Dillon Gabriel after Flacco’s underwhelming performances.
Injuries to both then allowed Shedeur to start, generating excitement in Cleveland following his impressive game against the Las Vegas Raiders.
However, after Sanders’ initial success, Cleveland fans quickly became disappointed due to his mistakes and subpar performances, which fell short of typical NFL quarterback standards. During the Browns’ game against the Bills, the starting quarterback briefly left following a deep cut to his pinky finger, resulting in Gabriel’s temporary substitution.
Sanders, who ranks No. 41 in the PFSN QB Impact metric with an F grade, returned moments later with a bandage, embodying resilience as the Browns continue to search for stability both on the field and for their future, leaving fans and insiders alike to wonder what comes next for Deion, Shedeur, and the organizations around them.
