What Did Deion Sanders Say When Asked About NFL Coaching Rumors?

Coach Prime was in his current role with Colorado when his son Shedeur was the quarterback. He has found relative success and has been a rumored candidate for NFL head coach vacancies in recent years, including with the Dallas Cowboys last year.

He recently appeared on an episode of “First Take” and was asked about the possibility of him making the jump up to the pros. He gave a clear answer about his own desires, noting that the way his son, Shedeur, was treated as a rookie has convinced him of his decision.

“Not whatsoever. With what transpired with my son last year, ain’t no way in the world,” stated Sanders.

Apparently, Deion is not happy about the way that Shedeur was handled in his first season with the Cleveland Browns. He was infamously passed on in the NFL Draft until the fifth round, after previously being projected as a top-ten pick. This was just the start of it, as it took a Dillon Gabriel injury for Sanders to even get an opportunity to see the field during an actual game.

The Browns opened the season with Joe Flacco as their starting quarterback, but after trading him to the Cincinnati Bengals, they gave Gabriel the first shot at the job. He was drafted before Sanders, so this was a fair decision, but his glaringly massive struggles, including ranking 47th among 48 quarterbacks in PFSN’s Impact Rankings, weren’t enough for Cleveland to make a change to their other rookie.

Their hand was essentially forced when Gabriel suffered an injury, and after Sanders got his opportunity, he never gave it away, finishing the rest of the season as their starter. He surely had his struggles along the way, but also flashed his upside as well. It’s unclear why head coach Kevin Stefanski was so resistant to giving him any playing time, but it may have contributed to his firing at the end of the season.

Deion Sanders declined to get into any specifics of his opinions on how Shedeur was treated. He simply eliminated the possibility of going to the NFL as a head coach himself and seemed to follow up with details, but cut it short before saying anything controversial, leaving listeners to speculate on exactly what he was referring to.
