The Los Angeles Rams secured another win last week, moving even closer to locking up the NFC’s No. 1 seed. A playoff spot is already guaranteed, but the team will be without Davante Adams for the next few weeks after he suffered a hamstring injury late in the game against the Detroit Lions.
While the injury is not expected to end his season, Adams is likely to miss multiple games as he recovers from one of the most common injuries in the NFL. With the Super Bowl as the ultimate goal, an insider indicated when Adams is expected to make his return to the Los Angeles offense based on the severity of the injury.
Insider Adam Schefter Provides Update About Davante Adams’ Hamstring Injury
The Rams’ offense has been one of the most feared units of the season. Led by quarterback Matthew Stafford, who is currently the favorite to win the league MVP award, the team has built an identity centered on the running game, stressing defenses with a mix of heavy personnel groupings and lighter formations.
The use of tight ends has been a major trend in Sean McVay’s scheme, and a factor that directly influenced the offensive improvement the Rams have shown this season was the addition of Adams to the roster. This is because in two-tight-end formations, the team can still rely on the speed and fluidity of Adams and Puka Nacua to stretch the field vertically.
Because of that, Adams’ injury is concerning, and with a tough final stretch that includes the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday, his absence could be the difference between the team securing the NFC bye or even having to play on the road in the playoffs. Insider Adam Schefter explained when we should expect to see Adams back.

“Sean McVay updated later today. He acknowledged yesterday it didn’t look good. My guess, and just a guess, is we’ll see him in the playoffs. That’s just a guess,” Schefter said. “This team can get by the rest of the regular season and give him the time he needs, and then when it matters, really matters for this team, you have Davante Adams back.”

Typically, players miss at least three weeks with this type of injury, which would line up with a return in the first round of the playoffs, the Wild Card round, depending, of course, on the severity of the injury. With a potential bye, the Rams would gain an extra week for Adams to recover.
Adams is ranked only as the 56th wide receiver on the PFSN WRi, but he leads the NFL with 14 touchdowns and has nine scores inside the 5-yard line, serving as Stafford’s favorite target in goal-to-go situations. Getting Adams back should be the Rams’ main focus over the next few weeks to ensure full strength heading into the playoffs.
