Daniel Jones was having a breakout season with the Indianapolis Colts last year, before an injury cut it short. The potential issue is that he was on an expiring contract, so his future was unclear. The franchise settled things by signing him to a massive new contract, and the quarterback shared his response.
Daniel Jones Responds to His Massive New Contract With the Colts in 2026 NFL offseason
Jones had the Colts in a prime position to make it to the playoffs last year, but everything fell apart after his season-ending injury. The franchise may have taken this into consideration when negotiating a new contract during the offseason, as he clearly demonstrated the value he brings to their team.
His new deal is reportedly worth $88 million across two seasons, and he is apparently expected to be ready for the opening game of the 2026 NFL season.
He shared his thoughts on the new contract and his outlook for the upcoming season shortly after their agreement was officially announced.
“I wanted to be back and I’m glad that we got it figured out. The transition tag and that whole process was interesting, but I always wanted to be here and I had faith that it would work out. I’m appreciative, grateful, and fired up to be here.
“We’ve got a special thing going, working with this coaching staff, working with the guys in the locker room, I’m fired up to get Alec [Pierce] back, and all of that. So, I’m looking forward to it,” stated Jones.

Jones finished 22nd or worse among quarterbacks in PFSN’s Impact Rankings in four of the past five seasons. This includes his four years with the New York Giants and the other with the Minnesota Vikings.
Despite his relative failures, the Colts gave him a shot to beat out Anthony Richardson for their starting quarterback job in 2025, and he succeeded in doing so.
Their shot on him paid off with the best season of his career, ranking fifth on the same list despite playing in just 13 games. This suggests that they unlocked his potential, which earned him a solid salary, but they also managed his risk by keeping it to a short-term deal, for now.
The veteran quarterback expressed his excitement for the upcoming season and praised the franchise for bringing back Alec Pierce on a new contract. They will look to finish what they started last season when they appeared to be postseason locks before his devastating injury.
