Daniel Jones Injury Update: What We Know About the New York Giants QB

    Published on

New York Giants QB Daniel Jones appeared to suffer an injury against the Miami Dolphins on Sunday. Here's the latest on Jones.

The New York Giants haven’t been able to protect their quarterback in Week 5, and their lack of blocking may have led to an injury on Sunday. Quarterback Daniel Jones had to leave today’s game after taking a massive blindside hit from Miami Dolphins pass rusher Andrew Van Ginkel. Here’s the latest on Jones.

From the current NFL standings to team depth charts to coverage of every game in the 18-week NFL schedule, we have all the news from around the league to keep you up to speed!

    Daniel Jones Injury Update

Jones had been terrorized by Miami’s front all afternoon, and Van Ginkel’s sack was the Dolphins’ sixth quarterback takedown of the day.

Jones never saw Van Ginkel coming and was extremely slow to get up after taking the hit. He initially went to the blue medical tent on the Giants’ sideline for evaluation but then left for New York’s locker room.

The Giants soon announced that Jones was out for the rest of Week 5 with a neck injury.

New York was only down by two scores with roughly nine minutes remaining in the game when Jones was declared out, so he wasn’t just leaving a blowout early.

Fortunately, Jones told head coach Brian Daboll after the game that he’ll “be OK.” Jones will need to be cleared by New York’s medical staff, but the mere fact that’s feeling decent is a positive sign.

Still, Jones also told reporters he was sore and admitted that his neck pain was similar to what he experienced after missing the final six games of the 2021 campaign with a neck injury.

Jones already underwent X-rays and is awaiting results. He will have an MRI on Monday.

On Monday, Daboll said that while the Giants still waiting for test results, they are “optimistic” Jones will be able to suit up against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday night.

Jones had completed 14 of 20 attempts for 119 scoreless yards before departing. Tyrod Taylor will be under center for the rest of Sunday’s game and for however long Jones is ultimately sidelined.

The Giants will face the Buffalo Bills, Washington Commanders, and New York Jets over the next three weeks. New York doesn’t have its bye until Week 13.

    Fantasy Fallout From Jones’ Injury

Prior to Jones exiting the game in the fourth quarter, he went 13 of 17 for 112 yards through the air while adding another 24 yards on the ground against the Dolphins.

The Giants’ offense has really struggled without Saquon Barkley in the lineup. They have generated just one offensive touchdown over the last three games with their Pro Bowl running back unavailable.

If Jones misses any additional time, New York’s pass catchers will have to rely on Taylor to get them the football. The switch under center should not drastically move the needle in either direction for any of the wide receivers or tight ends on the Giants roster.
