Daniel Jones has been excellent in his first season with the Indianapolis Colts this year. After essentially failing with the New York Giants to secure a long-term role as their starting quarterback, it took just half a season with his new team to be potentially considered for a contract extension.
His former Giants teammate Eli Manning, a true franchise legend, recently gave his opinion on Jones potentially being extended long-term with the Colts. He joined an episode of “Up & Adams” to give his definitive take on the situation.
Eli Manning Comments on Potential Contract Extension for Daniel Jones with Colts
Manning won two Super Bowl rings with the Giants before eventually being replaced by Jones. The move never quite worked out the way the franchise had hoped that it would, lasting just six seasons.
He joined the Colts during the offseason ahead of the 2025 NFL season, and at least through nine games, he has completely revived his career. He is currently on a one-year contract, but is reportedly nearing a potential extension already. Manning shared his thoughts on the situation.
“Just excited for Daniel. As I said, no one deserves it more, or has worked harder, and he did it from day one. If you’re going to lose your job to someone like I did, at least it’s to someone that’s coming in and working really hard and earned the right,” stated Manning.

The Giants legend was supportive of the quarterback who was drafted by the franchise to essentially end his legendary run as their starter. He explained that they still have a close relationship and he is fully rooting for his success with the Colts.
Jones has exceeded expectations in his first season with his new team, especially considering he first had to win a quarterback competition against Anthony Richardson to earn the starting job this year. He has responded with an impressive 7-2 record so far, while leading all players with 2,404 passing yards entering Week 10.
He currently sits on top of PFSN’s Impact Rankings among all quarterbacks this season and is one of only two players in his position, along with Jordan Love, to be graded in the A range through nine weeks. He is set to become a free agent at the conclusion of the season, and paired with his breakout campaign, it makes sense why the Colts are already reportedly working on an extension to potentially keep him in Indianapolis.
