Currently dealing with a groin injury, Chicago Bears running back D’Andre Swift has not practiced this week. The 26-year-old has already settled into Chicago, but the Bears know that they’re at a disadvantage without him on the field. With a few more days to recover and get things sorted out, here is the latest on Swift’s status.
D’Andre Swift Injury Update
For the first time all season, Swift has been listed as DNP for three consecutive days. Knowing that Swift hasn’t been listed as DNP in back-to-back practices all season long, there was a real room for concern. Swift, who hadn’t played more than 14 games in a season during his time in Detroit, played 16 games with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2023 and played the full 17 last year, which was his first in Chicago.
Swift hasn’t missed a game yet this season. He has 100 carries for 464 rushing yards with four touchdowns in his seven games. He’s added another touchdown in the air as his 18 receptions for 192 yards put him at 656 combined yards of offense. Given the Bears’ offense has sometimes struggled to get going, losing Swift could be a significant blow.
Keep an eye on D’Andre Swift
Today is the first time all season that I can recall that he went DNP DNP.
He has a smash spot, and Roschon Johnson is likely still out with his back injury.
Good chance Kyle Monangai eats in Week 9.
I’m not completely sure Swift plays.

Not only do the Bears have Swift to worry about, but their WR room has been a mess. Luther Burden III is dealing with a concussion, which has kept him out of practice all week. With DJ Moore, Rome Odunze, and Olamide Zaccheaus all limited on October 30 after not practicing on the 29th, things could go south very quickly.
#UPDATE: Both Swift and Burden were officially ruled out of Week 9 on Friday.
Coming off a 30-16 loss to the Baltimore Ravens, the Bears’ four-game win streak was snapped. They now sit at 4-3, a respectable record for a team under a second-year QB and first-year head coach. Bears fans haven’t forgotten about their 4-2 start last year, one that spiraled into a 10-game losing streak.
Swift currently ranks 4th in PFSN’s RB Impact Metric with his B+ grade. With him out against Cincinnati, Kyle Monangai will be the next man up. The 23-year-old rookie currently has 42 carries for 186 yards and a touchdown, which has given him a C grade. All things considered, the Rutgers graduate ranking 32nd in the metric is quite promising.
Kyle Monangai’s Fantasy Outlook
Here’s what PFSN’s Kyle Soppe wrote about Monangai’s fantasy outlook for Week 9:
Welcome to Kyle Monangai’s Cheat Sheet life as the seventh-round rookie who has touched the ball 22 times over the past two weeks and appears to be a piece that Ben Johnson is interested in exploring as he tries to get this ship pointed in the right direction.
Do I think he holds stand-alone value right now or that he has a real shot to unseat D’Andre Swift as the lead back in town? I do not.
Could the former happen as soon as next week (vs. NYG) should he take advantage of what projects to be an 8-10 touch role in a great spot? I think so.
He’s handled five red zone touches in the three weeks coming out of the bye and has seen 16 of his 42 carries (38.1%) pick up at least five yards this season.
Swift is running well, but it’s clear that Williams is going to need all the help he can get, and if a 5’8″, 207-pound back that scored 14 times last season at Rutgers offers a specific skill that is NFL-ready, I’m confident that Johnson will pull it out of him. Rosterable but not playable. Yet.
