Former NFL QB Sends Blunt 8-Word Message To Patriots About How To Utilize Travis Hunter If Drafted No. 4

Following a Heisman Trophy-winning campaign from superstar Travis Hunter, criticism continues to roll in about where the dual-threat talent should play. Hunter has dealt with a steady stream of doubters on his journey to the NFL. While No. 12 may be confident in his ability to play both WR and CB, many around the league are not.

Where Should Travis Hunter Play? Analyst Weighs In on Two-Way Star’s NFL Future

Doubts about Hunter’s ability to handle full games at both WR and CB might be justified. If that’s the case, where should the generational talent line up? Former NFL quarterback Dan Orlovsky has a clear opinion.

“He’s a WR. You play him at WR.”

Orlovsky’s comment came as Kay Adams was joined by New England Patriots de facto general manager Eliot Wolf on her show “Up & Adams.” The man calling the shots in New England gave a much less direct answer when asked if it would be “sexier” to see Hunter alongside WR Stefon Diggs or CB Christian Gonzalez.

“That’s a great question,” said Wolf. “I think if he’s available, which is a huge question mark, that will be up to the coaching staff to determine where he is going to fit in and also if we would even pick him.”

Hunter Is Capable, Ready to Play Both Sides of Ball in NFL

The doubts can pile up but won’t shake the 21-year-old’s confidence. The Colorado product believes he can play both WR and CB and plans to deliver wherever he lands.

His time at Colorado from 2023 to 2024 was nothing short of spectacular. In 2024, specifically, Hunter broke out with over 1,200 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns on 96 receptions — and that was just on offense.

On defense, Hunter posted 35 total tackles, 11 pass breakups, and four interceptions — all career highs. With his game still trending upward, there’s a real chance he hasn’t even hit his ceiling yet.

Where Hunter Lands in PFSN Mock Draft

Using PFSN’s Mock Draft Simulator, Hunter falls to No. 6 overall, where the Las Vegas Raiders take him. Brentley Weissman of PFSN breaks it down more in his scouting report on Hunter.

“Hunter enters the NFL Draft as one of the best prospects in the class, and he also profiles as one of the most intriguing players in recent memory since he legitimately qualifies as a top-five pick at two positions. He is truly a one-of-one type of NFL prospect that will spark a lot of debate for not just the media, but decision-makers at the top of the draft as well.

“The question, of course, lies in what position Hunter will play at the next level and if it is a combination of the two. With that being said, before I dive deeper into his scouting report, I personally believe Hunter is better at wide receiver, and that is the position I’d draft him to play.”

With Weissman echoing Orlovsky on where Hunter should line up, could it be that the 6-foot-1 wideout won’t get his wish to play both sides?
