In the 2026 NFL draft, Jeremiyah Love from Notre Dame is regarded as the best running back, if not one of the best players, in the entire draft.
With a lot of potential landing spots, NFL analyst Dan Orlovsky says that the New York Giants shouldn’t pass on drafting Love if he’s available at the fifth overall pick.
Why the New York Giants Are a Top Landing Spot for Jeremiyah Love
The Giants are one of the most interesting teams in the NFL right now; they’re a young team with a lot of talent and a future Hall of Fame head coach in John Harbaugh. To bolster the young, talented team, Orlovsky suggested drafting him if he makes it past the Tennessee Titans.
This morning on “Get Up” on ESPN, Orlovsky said the following:
“I think he is a guy that is instantly 1500 yards of offense his rookie year… I sit there, and I go realistically, I think Tennessee at four. I would run to the podium if I were the Giants at five and he was there… We have to stop saying Jeremiyah Love, running back. Jeremiyah Love instant offense, weapon, football player. He’s a guy you’re going to hand it to probably 250 times and throw it to 80 times his rookie year.”
During the 2025 college football season, Love ranked fourth among running backs in the NCAA with an impact score of 92.4 and a letter grade of A- according to PFSN’s CFB Running Back Impact Metric. He also rushed 199 times for 1,372 yards and 18 touchdowns. Additionally, he caught 27 passes for 280 yards and three touchdowns.
Love will be an impact player wherever he goes; however, does it really make that much sense for the Giants to take him? After all, they have young and talented running backs on their roster already.
Last year, the Giants drafted Cam Skattebo with the 105th overall pick in the fourth round of the 2025 NFL draft. Despite only playing in eight games due to injury, he rushed 101 times for 410 yards and five touchdowns. Additionally, he caught 24 passes for 207 yards and two touchdowns.
In PFSN’s NFL Running Back Impact Metric (RBi), he ranked as the 34th-best running back with an impact score of 57.3 and a letter grade of F. Despite the poor grade, he’s shown a lot of promise.
Then there’s Tyrone Tracy Jr., who was drafted by the Giants with the 166th overall pick of the 2024 NFL draft. Last season, he rushed 176 times for 740 yards and two touchdowns. He also caught 36 passes for 288 yards and two touchdowns.

In NFL RBi, he ranked 32nd with an impact score of 58.6 and a letter grade of F.
Love would be a great asset to any team, but are the Giants really in a position to draft a running back that early instead of another position of greater need?
