Former Colts QB Presents Indy With ‘Interesting’ Alternative at Quarterback If Daniel Jones’ Asking Price Is Too High

While the Colts focus on getting a long-term deal done with Daniel Jones, a former Indy QB offers an alternative. Know more here.

The Indianapolis Colts started the offseason with big moves to bring back QB Daniel Jones on the franchise tag, re-sign Alec Pierce to a massive contract, and traded away Michael Pittman to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Besides those, the Colts have made one other move to sign EDGE Arden Key, but that is it.

Currently, the Colts’ focus is on getting a long-term deal done with Jones, and it could be an extremely large contract.

NFL Insider and Former NFL QB Presents Alternative Idea for the Colts’ QB Situation

From the Colts’ perspective, it makes sense to bring Jones back to the roster. He led the team to winning ways in 2025, and with so much QB uncertainty since Andrew Luck, having stability in that room is too much to pass up. Jones was ranked 5th overall in PFSN’s QB Impact Metric last season for the Colts.

The issue is that Jones has been far from consistent in his career, and the Colts’ decision to bet on him is risky, especially if the contract is significant.

Even with that in mind, there is a really good chance Indianapolis does not care about this and brings back Jones.

This has not stopped voices around the NFL from giving their opinions on the move, and former Colts QB Dan Orlovsky on the Pat McAfee Show presented a QB option for McAfee from Indianapolis’ perspective.

“What would you rather do: chase after Kyler Murray for a million, a million and a half, or be strangleholded by Daniel Jones and his group for $50+ million?”

In the video included in the post above, McAfee did not like the question at first, but did begin to think about Murray in the Colts’ offense, “to your point, if we can get Kyler in that Shane Steichen offense… and it’s a million dollars… I want Daniel Jones, please, final answer.”

It seemed that McAfee was tempted by the Murray idea, but fell back on Jones being the guy, no matter what, like the Colts are doing.

Orlovsky then pushed back and brought up the long injury history of Jones, “he has the ACL for his time in New York (the Giants), and there’s an Achilles tear. I think there are things the Colts, who feel like ‘okay, some good things are happening’, I just think it’s an interesting situation to just pay attention to.”

What Orlovsky brought up is one of the main issues with bringing back Jones. There have been some devastating injuries in his past, and, as an inconsistent player, he could only make things worse.

Again, the Colts will probably get this deal done with Jones, but time will tell if it was the correct decision.
