Should I Draft Dalvin Cook? Jets RB’s Fantasy Outlook in 2023

New York Jets RB Dalvin Cook signed this summer to provide insurance to this backfield. Could he be a fantasy football difference-maker all season long?

Dalvin Cook has been nothing short of fantasy football royalty over the past four seasons and now links up with Aaron Rodgers in New York on a team in win-now mode. Fantasy managers must weigh the risk of a player with over 1,500 NFL touches on his résumé sharing a backfield with a rising star and determine if the veteran is worth a spot in their starting lineup.

Dalvin Cook’s Fantasy Outlook for the 2023 NFL Season

The Jets as a franchise are committed to Breece Hall long-term, but they are also committed to Rodgers and winning right away. Cook figures to satisfy the ladder, especially with him being on a one-year deal and Hall coming off of a torn ACL.

The passing game will funnel through Garrett Wilson and Garrett Wilson alone. Rodgers brought some comfort food with him from Green Bay in the forms of Allen Lazard and Randall Cobb, two receivers who can help move the chains but who are unlikely to make a massive impact.

Is Cook a Good Fantasy Pick?

I think he is, yeah. As Hall mends the knee injury, Cook figures to assume the lead role in this offense and thus has the first crack at earning the trust of Rodgers. That may be a narrative, but it’s something that needs to be factored in and plays into my ranking of him over Hall this season.

This offense is going to be successful, though it is worth noting that Rodgers traditionally operates at a below-average pace, something that will limit the possession count for New York and make it difficult to sustain two viable running backs.

I’m drafting Cook with the hope that an early season chance pays off in the form of top-15 production at the position.
