What Happened to Dalton Kincaid? A Look at Why Bills TE Is Not Playing in Week 6 vs. Falcons

Dalton Kincaid, fresh off a career-best game, is out for MNF vs Falcons, with Curtis Samuel joining him on the inactives list.

The Buffalo Bills are chasing their fifth win of the season. Unfortunately, they entered their Monday Night Football game against the Atlanta Falcons without their leading pass catcher. Dalton Kincaid’s 2025 season has been a mixture of highs and bad luck.

Last week, he recorded six receptions on six targets for 108 yards, a career-best performance against the New England Patriots. Unfortunately, the Bills lost, 23-20. The worst part is that Kincaid played through the pain of an injured oblique, and the team still fell short by three points.

And, the oblique strain has now derailed his Week 6.

How Did Dalton Kincaid Sustain the Injury?

When exactly Kincaid injured his oblique hasn’t been disclosed. The Buffalo News’ Katherine Fitzgerald reported that he was spotted wearing a non-contact jersey at Thursday’s practice. Later that day, the first practice report of the week showed that he had an oblique-related complication.

Kincaid’s practice remained limited both Thursday and Friday. He ultimately was listed as “questionable” for Monday Night Football on Saturday. And now, he has been deemed inactive for the game against the Falcons.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter posted on X, “Bills TE Dalton Kincaid, who was listed as questionable for tonight’s game vs. the Falcons due to an oblique injury, is out. Bills WR Curtis Samuel also is out tonight. So no Kincaid, no Samuel.”

Curtis Samuel appears to have picked up his injuries against a Patriots, a game where he recorded 49% of the offensive snaps. Samuel also secured both of his targets for 26 yards and one score. The veteran receiver is dealing with both rib and neck injuries, so it remains to be seen how many games he might miss.

Kincaid has a B in PFSN’s TE Impact metrics and sports an 85.5 grade, which the fourth-currently makes him fourth-ranked TE thus far in 2025. His current injury does not appear to be a long-term issue, and Kincaid should have a good chance of returning to action Sunday, Oct. 26 against the Carolina Panthers following Buffalo’s Week 7 bye.

The missing WR-TE pair might hamper the Bills’ chances against the Falcons, but the bye week should give both a good chance to return in Week 8.

Until then, Dawson Knox is the next in line to lead the Bills’ Week 6 TE corps. The team also has rookie Jackson Hawes behind Knox as a complementary option.
