Training camp was supposed to bring hope to Dallas. Instead, it’s brought controversy. The Dallas Cowboys’ unconventional practice drills have fans questioning whether new head coach Brian Schottenheimer’s approach will translate to wins or just more viral moments for all the wrong reasons.
Why Are Dallas Cowboys Fans Calling the New Training Drills ‘Corny’ and ‘Pathetic’?
Heading into a new NFL season, the Dallas Cowboys have their work cut out for them. Desperate to win the Lombardi Trophy and under new coach Brian Schottenheimer, the team has regrouped as training camps begin. Schottenheimer has stepped forward with a new ideology, determined for the team to work and have fun.
However, the Cowboys aren’t without drama. Players and coaching staff ran sprints as punishment after a fight broke out on Wednesday, while second-year player Ajani Cornelius was thrown out for punching someone. Schottenheimer reprimanded his team, putting his foot down as he looked for competitiveness over combativeness.
With training camp open to fans, the Cowboys’ practices have faced intense scrutiny. That scrutiny reached a boiling point when footage of their unique drills hit social media.

Dov Kleiman, a football news aggregator account, recently shared a clip from the Cowboys’ practice drills, adding that the team has gone viral for “messing” around. According to Kleiman, who has been known to troll fans online, no professional team has ever carried out a similar drill.
The fan reaction was swift and largely negative. Cowboys supporters didn’t hold back their criticism of what they saw as unprofessional antics.
“It’s getting corny now,” one user wrote. “Do you find this kinda cringe or great for chemistry?” another fan added.
“This s*** is annoying and getting out of hand,” a fan said. “Dude this is freaking pathetic fr,” another user remarked.
Not all reactions were negative, though. Some fans chose to trust Schottenheimer and his system, appreciating that the organization was trying something new.
I can dig it. Keeping things fun I guess.

One supporter defended the approach: “Not sure why so many people hates this. The guys is clearly trying something new. Who knows if it translate to winning, but at least he is trying something we haven’t seen before. Isn’t that what we wanted?”
How Does Brian Schottenheimer Plan to Change the Cowboys’ Culture?
While people remain uncertain about the Cowboys’ 2025-26 season, Schottenheimer is confident about the team’s ability to win games. His philosophy centers on balancing hard work with enjoyment, a combination he believes will pay dividends on the field.
During a July press interview, he said, “We’re gonna have fun and we’re gonna work. You can do both. In 1985, maybe people thought you couldn’t do both. But we can. And we’ve proved that. We’re gonna prove that when you see us win a lot of football games.”

Schottenheimer’s challenge goes beyond training camp drills and team chemistry. Though tension persists regarding Micah Parsons’ contract and possible trade, Schottenheimer’s new approach could transform the team’s culture.
For Cowboys fans who have endured years of playoff disappointments, the unconventional methods represent either a fresh start or more of the same circus atmosphere. Only the 2025-26 season will reveal which interpretation proves correct.
Until then, loyal fans remain hopeful for a successful season while questioning whether fun equals wins in the NFL.
