Dallas Cowboys Announce Release Of 26-Year-Old Running Back After Trades

Malik Davis has spent all three seasons of his career in the NFL with the Dallas Cowboys.

He has had limited playing time in three games so far this year.

    Dallas Cowboys Waive Malik Davis

On Tuesday, the Cowboys (following a series of trades) announced that they had waived the 26-year-old.

Via @DallasCowboysPR: “The @dallascowboys waived RB Malik Davis on Tuesday.”

Davis (who played college football at Florida) appeared in 18 total games with the Cowboys.

He has 41 career carries for 167 yards and one touchdown.

Via @WhatGoingDowney: “To make room for Logan Wilson – the Cowboys waived RB Malik Davis He’ll have to go through waivers before he can re-added to the practice squad”

Right now, the Cowboys are the second-place team in the NFC East with a 3-5-1 record in nine games.

They most recently lost to the Arizona Cardinals (at home) by a score of 27-17.

Via ESPN’s Adam Schefter: “Notable Cowboys trades since the offseason: Traded for: DT Quinnen Williams (Jets), LB Logan Wilson (Bengals), DT Kenny Clark (Packers), WR George Pickens (Steelers), CB Kaiir Elam (Bills), LB Kenneth Murray (Titans) and QB Joe Milton (Patriots). Traded away: Micah Parsons

The Cowboys will resume action on November 17 when they visit the Las Vegas Raiders in Nevada.

They are coming off a season where they missed the NFL playoffs with a 7-10 record.

Via @VoiceOfTheStar: “Malik Davis was waived by the #Cowboys to make room for the incoming trades of Logan Wilson and Quinnen Williams. I suspect they’d like him to clear waivers and rejoin the practice squad.”

Davis was part of a running back room that features Javonte Williams as the team’s lead option. Williams currently ranks 6th in the NFL, according to PFSN’s Running Back Impact metric. However, since a hot start to the season, Williams has struggled, finishing 41st, 15th, 24th, and 15th across the last four weeks.
