Some decisions made by Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones can be downright infuriating, not only to his fan base but also to the players who have previously worn his team’s uniform. With the trade deadline approaching, the organization made a big-time move to change the landscape of their season.
Legendary quarterback Troy Aikman, who won three Super Bowls with the franchise, was on the call for their Monday Night Football clash against the Arizona Cardinals, and he broke down what the trade could mean for them. But it might not have been what Jones may have wanted to hear from the franchise icon.
Troy Aikman Isn’t Buying Whatever the Cowboys are Selling
Ahead of the trade deadline, it seemed pertinent for the Cowboys to make a move to try and improve their season and remain in the playoff mix. As it turned out, that was exactly their plan, according to Jones.
Revealing that the team had made a significant move, he opted not to share details about the deal, including the name of the player he had acquired. It was a baffling move that left the fans with even more frustration.
Instead, all he offered was what sounded like a quote to placate them. “Immediately, it will have him on the field, and it will address some of the things that have been our shortcomings.” Unfortunately, one comment wasn’t enough to sway Aikman.
During the pregame show for the NFL on ESPN, he had a simple rebuttal to Jones’ logic. “No, I don’t believe so,” he confirmed about one defensive player changing the entire trajectory of the team.
“Do I think Micah Parsons would have made a difference? Absolutely. But would that have changed their record that much? I don’t know. He is a difference maker, but those guys aren’t typically available. So I don’t know if they can bring in somebody like him.”
.@TroyAikman doesn’t believe the Cowboys are one defensive player away from being a “competitive football team.” 😅

Going a step forward, he had some comments about the way Jones was handling the situation. “I don’t know what that move is. I don’t know who it might be. I think it’s interesting that you announce there’s a trade, but you’re not gonna announce who it is.”
Instead, he concluded his comments by stating that an accurate verdict could only be made once the details of the trade became public. However, with the way Jones framed his remarks, it is hard to see the move as anything but a request for help on the defense.
Ranked as the second-worst team on PFSN’s Defense Impact, the team has offset the excellence of its offense, where the trio of Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb, and George Pickens, alongside a resurgent season from Javonte Williams, has turned them into a top-five team on PFSN’s Offense Impact.
Whether one trade could fix that defense entirely is up for debate. But adding some help on that side of the football should go a long way in at least improving the Cowboys from a 3-4-1 team.
