The Dallas Cowboys are running the risk of making the same mistake with George Pickens as they did with Micah Parsons. This franchise has been known for making poor decisions with players who are about to become free agents, with significant consequences.
The situation involving the wide receiver is one of the main topics of the Dallas offseason, and a video released earlier this week during the Super Bowl has left Cowboys fans even more curious to know how this story will unfold.
George Pickens Opens Up About His Current Situation With the Dallas Cowboys
In an interview with Clarence Hill Jr. during the Pro Bowl Games, Pickens (who ranks No. 3 in the PFSN NFL WR Impact metric with a B+ grade) finally broke his silence on the situation and responded directly to a question about the possibility of a contract renewal, noting that the money earmarked for Parsons would be used.
Pickens responded to the question in good humor and assured that “anything in life is possible,” while confirming that he had not initiated talks with the franchise about the future of his contract. However, the WR mentioned March 11 as the “start date,” very close to free agency.
“Everything in life is a possibility…but all I can say it’s a very high possibility. But we definitely… we thought we could use Micah Parsons (money). But all I can say is that it’s a possibility,” said Pickens.

Despite this amusing response, the latest reports indicate that there has been no direct contact with Pickens’ representatives to even begin initial negotiations.
Could the Cowboys Experience the Same Situation With Pickens?
Although the scenario should not be cause for immediate despair, the simple fact that the Cowboys could experience the same situation is already a warning about mistakes from previous years and the impact those omissions can have on the entire roster.

Last year, Dallas failed to act with sufficient transparency to secure the long-term renewal of defensive star Parsons. As a result, they were forced to trade him to the Green Bay Packers, which significantly weakened the Cowboys’ defense in 2025.
Although the Commanders were unable to capitalize on this weakness in head-to-head matchups last season, repeating this stance with Pickens suggests internal instability that could favor other division teams.
