The Dallas Cowboys acquired George Pickens to provide a reliable second option behind CeeDee Lamb. Instead, they found a superstar who has shattered expectations. Pickens has appeared in all 12 games during his debut season in Dallas, but that reliability is now in jeopardy just days before a massive NFC showdown.
Will George Pickens Be Ready for Thursday Night Football?
The Cowboys face a condensed practice schedule as they prepare to go on the road for a pivotal NFC clash with the Detroit Lions. Dallas opened its Week 14 preparations on Monday, and Pickens appeared on the injury report as a limited participant with knee and calf issues, according to Jon Machota.
Trevon Diggs joined him as a limited participant, while Jadeveon Clowney and Tyler Guyton were listed as non-participants. While all four represent notable potential absences, Pickens might be the most crucial name to monitor given his production this year.
Fortunately for the breakout star, this isn’t a new development. Pickens managed these same two injuries last week without any reported setbacks.
In fact, he sat out Monday’s practice entirely before the Thanksgiving matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs, so his limited participation this week actually marks an improvement. This trajectory suggests he has a strong chance to suit up for Thursday Night Football in Detroit.
How Has Pickens Performed in His First Cowboys Season?
Pickens is enjoying a career-defining campaign in his first year with Dallas, even while sharing the field with Lamb. With five weeks still remaining in the 2025 NFL season, the former Pittsburgh Steelers standout has already established new career highs in receptions, yards, and touchdowns.
His elite value is also evident in the analytics. Pickens currently ranks third among all wide receivers on PFSN’s Impact Rankings for this season, trailing only Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Puka Nacua.
Notably, he sits significantly higher than Lamb, who ranks 20th so far. This distinction makes Dallas one of only three teams, along with the Chiefs and New England Patriots, to feature multiple top-20 wide receivers.
Having both dynamic threats available in Week 14 would significantly improve the Cowboys’ chances of securing a fourth consecutive victory as they continue their quest for a playoff berth. Pickens appears on track to play, especially if he can upgrade to a full participant at Tuesday’s practice and avoid an official injury designation before kickoff.
