It’s been a rough year to root for the Dallas Cowboys. After an underwhelming 2024 season, in which Dak Prescott went down with an injury that derailed the entire season, things only got tougher with a trade sending Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers, effectively putting a ceiling on this year, with the defense a shadow of its former self.
But with the trade deadline right around the corner, owner and general manager Jerry Jones brought some good news for the fan base. With the idea of a trade firmly set, it pushed all the fans to take guesses about who the newest member of the roster could be.

Fans Guess Who the Cowboys are Adding
With the team sitting at 3-4-1 ahead of their Week 9 clash against the Arizona Cardinals, it seemed pertinent that the Cowboys make a trade to salvage the season and make a playoff push in the latter half of the year.
As it turned out, Jones agreed with the idea and confirmed that the organization had made a move to improve: “Immediately, it will address some things that have been our shortcomings.”
However, he declined to reveal any details about the trade, including the player they were supposedly adding. As a result, it allowed fans to start guessing who that player could be.
With the defense ranked second-worst on PFSN’s Defense Impact, it wasn’t a surprise to see most people assuming that the move was to add a defensive star. But for some, that meant the team had taken an almighty swing.
One fan exclaimed, “Trey Hendrickson, you are a Cowboy.” The league leader in sacks last season is a game-wrecking talent on the edge who could make an immediate noticeable impact on the defense.

But the asking price for someone of his stature might be extremely high. As a result, some fans had more tempered expectations, with one fan hoping that it was Bradley Chubb from the Miami Dolphins who would add to the linebacker core for the Cowboys.

However, with the hope that the Dolphins could be undergoing a fire sale after starting the season 2-7 and firing general manager Chris Grier, others hoped that the secondary could see some improvement with the addition of Minkah Fitzpatrick.
As some rumors grew about the former Pittsburgh Steelers star being that target, one fan remained unsure but hopeful. “I can’t trust anything at this point, but I can still have hope.” Some, though, were unwilling to place their faith in Jones.

One fan lamented, “It’s gonna be Logan Wilson, isn’t it? FML.”
With Jordan Schultz confirming the conversations the Cowboys had regarding Wilson, Chubb, and Hendrickson, a fan made a simple conclusion.
“Gotta be for Logan Wilson or Bradley Chubb. It wouldn’t make any sense to give the Bengals what they’re asking for Hendrickson.”
For some, none of those names were as appealing as another trade candidate who had been linked to Dallas for quite some time.
“Unless that trade is for Maxx Crosby, I don’t wanna hear it,” one fan wrote, while another added, “Mad Maxx or we riot.”

Thanks to a 2-6 start by the Raiders after losing in overtime to the Jacksonville Jaguars following the bye, the Crosby move was looking more like a possibility, as the superstar edge rusher had made his intentions of playing competitive football crystal clear.
Currently, it’s impossible to identify who the player Jones could acquire will be. However, for a team that has struggled to close the deal due to its defensive deficiencies, any move should help them improve at least marginally. With the way the offense has been humming, that could be all they need.
