Everything indicates that the Dallas Cowboys' defensive disaster with Matt Eberflus will be left behind with a major reinforcement for DC.

The Dallas Cowboys have prioritized searching for a new defensive coordinator in recent days and are now close to signing with one of the most sought-after talents in the NFL.

Have the Dallas Cowboys Reached an Agreement With a New Defensive Coordinator?

According to CBS’s Jonathan Jones, after recent discussions, the Cowboys finalized an agreement with the Eagles on Thursday to hire Christian Parker, passing game coordinator/DBs coach, as their new defensive coordinator. This is a significant victory for Dallas, especially given Parker’s high demand by other franchises during this hiring cycle.

Recently recognized as one of the league’s fastest-rising talents, Parker had first interviewed with the Green Bay Packers to replace Jeff Hafley, who had just accepted the Miami Dolphins’ head coaching position. Ultimately, the Cowboys moved decisively and secured Parker before his rival interview process with Green Bay could progress further.

Parker started his career as a college coach on defense at Virginia State. He then coached at Norfolk State, Notre Dame, and Texas A&M before making his NFL debut in Green Bay as a quality control coach during Matt LaFleur’s first two seasons as head coach in 2019 and 2020.

In 2024, before the Packers hired Hafley, who was previously the head coach at Boston College, Parker was interviewed by the team for the defensive coordinator position. After not being selected for the Packers’ defensive coordinator role, Parker joined the Eagles in 2024 as part of DC Vic Fangio’s staff. Previously, the two had worked together in 2021 when Parker was the defensive backs coach in Denver.

Parker’s main achievement with the Eagles was developing cornerbacks Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean, transforming them into top-level players and giving the franchise its first All-Pro cornerback since Lito Sheppard. Under Parker’s coaching, the Eagles’ secondary played a key role in their Super Bowl title and helped the defense finish eighth against the pass in 2025.

Parker also directly guided Patrick Surtain II’s development with the Broncos and boasts an excellent track record of bringing out the best in players. Despite this, he faces challenges in Dallas, given the defense’s poor performance under Matt Eberflus, who ranks No. 6 in the PFSN Defense Impact metric with a B+ grade.

Cowboys Deal Eagles A Heavy Blow After Agreement With Parker

All signs now indicate that the Eagles will turn to Joe Kasper (who worked with Fangio in Miami before returning to Philadelphia) to take over as defensive backs coach, as reported by the local press in recent days.

Another alternative is to promote Roy Anderson, the cornerbacks coach, if they want to opt for an internal promotion. For now, reports indicate the team will not make an external hire to fill this gap.
