The Dallas Cowboys have one of the best wide receiver tandems in the entire NFL with George Pickens and CeeDee Lamb. The potential issue is that Pickens is a pending free agent this year, so his future with the team could be in jeopardy. This has a recent 2026 mock draft predicting that they will select a top prospect in the position.
Cowboys 2026 Mock Draft Predicts a New WR in Dallas Amid George Pickens’ Expiring Contract
The Cowboys had been seeking a reliable second wide receiver to pair with Lamb over the past several years. They finally appear to have found one in Pickens, but his expiring contract could be an issue.
It’s unlikely that Dallas wants to again have a problem with positional depth behind Lamb, so a recent 2026 NFL Mock Draft by Warren Sharp expects them to pick one of the top wide receiver prospects.
This would essentially give them insurance if Pickens were to depart during the offseason, but even if he stays, it gives Dak Prescott another weapon to work with as they look to rebound after missing the playoffs last year.

Jordyn Tyson was selected by the Cowboys with the 12th overall pick in the first round of this mock draft. He opened his college football career by playing a season with the Colorado Buffaloes before spending the past three years with the Arizona State Sun Devils. He has been a key part of their passing attack over the past two seasons.
The intriguing prospect has combined to record 136 receptions for 1,812 yards in those two years as a leading target in his offense. He has also totaled 23 touchdowns during his entire collegiate career and has the upside to immediately provide the Cowboys with another useful weapon.

This potential pick surely makes a ton of sense if Dallas is unable to sign Pickens to a contract extension, but if they do so before the 2026 NFL Draft, they may decide to go in a different direction by targeting another position.
Many rumors have been suggesting that they will place their franchise tag on the breakout star, and if this is the case, they could still pick Tyson to theoretically replace Pickens at some time down the road.
Pickens turned in a career year in his first season with the Cowboys, finishing third among all wide receivers in the PFSN NFL WR Impact Rankings. He trailed only Puka Nacua and Jaxon Smith-Njigba, truly demonstrating his elite production in Dallas.
