As the football world descends on Indianapolis for the NFL Scouting Combine, fans are starving for news. Prospects will test their way into the discourse, providing a new set of risers and fallers.
However, it’s also the time on the football calendar when schedule news drops, including an announcement from the Washington Commanders.
Washington Commanders Headed Overseas in 2026
It’s no surprise that the NFL is continuing to push its international boundaries. With nine international games on the 2026 schedule, the league’s influence should only accelerate.
This time, Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels will get the chance to make his international debut. On Wednesday, Adam Schefter announced that Washington will play a game in England next season.
“Another international assignment: the Commanders have been chosen to play a 2026 regular-season game at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London,” he posted.

Washington played an international game in 2025, as the league hoped to capitalize on the Commanders’ rise in relevance. However, Daniels missed the game with an injury, and Marcus Mariota fell short to the Miami Dolphins, 16-13, in Madrid.
Daniels’ injury-riddled campaign made him the 28th-ranked passer by PFSN’s NFL QB Impact Metric, a disappointing sequel to his Offensive Rookie of the Year season.
With a clean bill of health and a new supporting cast, Daniels should be better positioned for success in 2026. For now, though, it isn’t immediately clear who will be on the opposite sideline in London.
As an organization, Washington is 0-1-1 overseas. Before last season’s loss to Miami, their last clash came in 2016, when they tied the Cincinnati Bengals 27-27.

The Commanders took to social media to celebrate the announcement, posting a handful of memes alongside a promotional video.
Playing in England is an opportunity for Washington to expand its influence, endear itself to a new group of fans, and celebrate those already cheering from across the Atlantic.
While these standalone games have earned a reputation for suboptimal quarterbacking and an unnecessary wake-up call, Daniels, should he stay healthy, offers the league an opportunity to put one of its biggest stars in the spotlight. Throw in a worthy opponent, and Tottenham Hotspur Stadium could play host to a classic.
The Commanders will play their typical six division games, along with the AFC South, NFC West, and third-place teams from the NFC North (Minnesota Vikings), NFC South (Atlanta Falcons), and AFC North (Cincinnati Bengals). Six of those teams made the playoffs last season, setting the stage for an exciting game.
