Bill Belichick’s omission from the Hall of Fame’s 2026 class isn’t the only issue stirring among the legends; famous wideout Reggie Wayne has also expressed his displeasure at being snubbed. The 2026 NFL Honors will take place on Thursday, leaving fans curious about who’ll make it into the Hall.
But what did Wayne say about his omission?
Iconic WR Reggie Wayne Has Sarcastic Response To Hall of Fame Snub
Wayne retired after sitting out the 2015 NFL season, and ever since becoming eligible for the Hall of Fame in 2020, he’s been a finalist every year. However, he has yet to receive a golden jacket after seven years on the ballot.

Former Hall of Fame voter Peter King spoke about the Indianapolis Colts (No. 5 in PFSN Offense Impact) icon’s omission in 2026, stacking his argument against the wideout’s induction. His opposition to Wayne stems from his belief that the receiver didn’t stand out enough as an individual playmaker.
The receiver, though, had a blunt response to King’s claims, tweeting,
“I guess the ball caught themselves… But anyway, carry on..”
The retired receiver spent 14 years in the NFL, casting his name among the very best to ever do it. He was a life-long Colt, establishing a legendary career in Indy alongside some of the game’s most respected names.
In 211 games, he caught 1,070 balls for 14,345 yards and 82 touchdowns, averaging 13.4 yards per reception. He’s a Super Bowl champion, former First-Team All-Pro, six-time Pro Bowler, and a former NFL receiving yards leader.
What Exactly Did Peter King Say About Reggie Wayne?
King appeared on the “Between the Tackles” podcast, where he was asked about Wayne and Torry Holt missing out on the Class of 2026.
“They were excellent players,” he admitted. “And they both played big roles in their team. I’m just not a believer that they are singular players.”
Wayne famously began his NFL career behind the legendary Marvin Harrison, catching passes from another legend, Peyton Manning. He constantly had a strong cast around him to propel him to greater heights. Even when Manning left for the Denver Broncos, Wayne then got a young superstar in Andrew Luck throwing him passes.
“If you ask me to name the amount of great catches, and the amount of great plays he made in the field, that I just said, ‘Wow, look at that; now that’s an incredible receiver,’ just, sorry, I didn’t see that.”
Wayne opted to sit out the 2015 season (his last) after getting a contract from the New England Patriots. Interestingly, had he opted to play and recorded a meager 33 receptions that year, he would’ve surpassed six more players on the all-time receptions list to stand fifth in career catches.
