Colton Hood’s NFL Draft Potential
Colton Hood has been one of the best young CBs in college football after transferring from Colorado, and he’s helped the Volunteers weather the absence of Jermod McCoy. Hood has a PFSN CFBi score of 92.5 — in the elite tier — and the film reflects his success and emergence as a 2026 NFL Draft prospect.
At a tall 6’0″, 195 pounds, Hood is patient in press, a rapid mover with his transitions, and a formidable speed threat who can turn and run with WRs, then prevent stacking with his speed and boundary-pressing physicality. There are instances where he loses discipline with his targeted physicality, risking penalties, but overall, he has the coverage mobility, speed, mental acuity, projected scheme versatility, and playmaking edge to earn early-round interest.
CFB Week 9 Update
In Jermod McCoy’s stead, Hood has emerged as a true early-round prospect at CB, and his Week 9 showing was another impressive checkpoint on his road to the 2026 NFL Draft. His reactive quickness and physicality showed up again in coverage, and he also made plays in run support, notching a tackle for loss and forcing a fumble. Now a semifinalist for the Thorpe Award, Hood is producing at a high level in the SEC, and has translatable NFL tools, with projected schematic versatility across both man and zone looks.
CFB Week 10 Update
Hood had a decent, if unspectacular, showing against Oklahoma in Week 10, but there are areas for improvement to note against short routes. His feet are exceedingly idle ahead of stems, which can be a good and a bad thing. He doesn’t have much wasted motion when getting depth, but at the same time, when he’s too idle, he can be a tick late to respond to route breaks on slants and short crossers.
He allowed three catches for 37 yards on four targets, per TruMedia — and while he wasn’t tested at all down the field, those kinds of chain-moving completions and RAC plays can help an offense’s momentum stay alive. Nevertheless, Hood remains a potential first-round pick whose 2025 season has been very strong overall.
Where Is Hood Being Selected Most Often in the PFSN Mock Draft Simulator?
Hood currently holds the No. 34 overall rank among prospects, positioning him as a Day 2 prospect. His most recent Average Draft Position (ADP) of 40.7 as of October 27 reflects that he is typically being selected in the second or third round.
The gap between his rank and ADP indicates that while he’s highly regarded on our board, draft simulators are seeing him slide slightly, possibly due to team needs or positional value considerations.
