The record might not immediately give it away, but the Cleveland Browns had a ton of positives to take away from the 2025 NFL season. Not only did Myles Garrett set the record for sacks in a single season, but they also put together an excellent draft class that should give multiple long-term contributors on the squad.
Cleveland Browns Finally Find Their Quarterback in 2026 NFL Draft
However, the biggest problem for the organization remains unchanged. Since the Deshaun Watson trade, they haven’t found the answer at the most important position in the sport. This season, even with three different players logging significant time under center, they didn’t find the answer. Now one analyst believes the answer could come in the 2026 draft.
Last season, Joe Flacco, Dillon Gabriel, and Shedeur Sanders all got extended runs at the quarterback spot for the Browns. Sanders, the most popular of the three options, from a fanbase and national interest perspective, got the extended run for the final seven games.
As a result, many expect the job to be his to lose. However, his run under center wasn’t a massive success. Throwing under 1,400 yards in his seven full games as a starter, he added just 7 total touchdowns, while giving up 9 interceptions.
Finishing as the third-worst-ranked player on PFSN’s QB Impact, with a dreadful score of 56.9, he was just a tad bit better than Gabriel, who sat beneath him with a 51.0 score. Simply put, if the Browns can get a better choice at QB, they should take it.
And, Ian Cummings of PFSN, in his latest mock draft, believes he’s found that guy in the form of the Alabama Crimson Tide product, Ty Simpson. While not expecting Simpson to go in the first round, Cummings has Cleveland adding an offensive lineman and a wide receiver with their two picks.
Then, with the 39th overall pick, he believes Simpson will still be available for the Browns to snag, and he doesn’t see the team passing up on that opportunity.
“Ty Simpson currently grades as an early Day 2 prospect on my board, with Marc Bulger as an NFL comp. For a team like Cleveland, he’s a worthwhile investment in the Top 50, but he has more to prove before he can take the keys to the kingdom and truly elevate his roster.”
Coming in at number 25 on PFSN’s College football QB Impact in his lone season as a starter, Simpson threw for 3,567 yards and 28 touchdowns, while being extremely efficient with just 5 interceptions and a 64.5 completion percentage.
Add in 2 rushing touchdowns that he added during his time with the Crimson Tide for a total of 30 touchdowns in his collegiate career, and the upside is clear if the Browns try to add another wrinkle to their quarterback room.
