Former New Orleans Saints wide receiver Rashid Shaheed was traded to the Seahawks before the deadline a week ago in an effort to upgrade their offense. The Seahawks have quickly emerged as one of the hottest teams at 7-2, right next to the Philadelphia Eagles atop the NFC.
Led by 2024 resurgent quarterback Sam Darnold, the Seahawks finally get some depth at the position behind Jaxon Smith-Njigba, who has become one of the breakout stars of this offense. Unfortunately for the Saints, it means a rebuild, as the 1-8 team will pivot to drafting an adequate franchise quarterback to complement Chris Olave, with whom they’re in contract talks. Olave also had a few words to share regarding his thoughts on the trade.

Though professional obligations ultimately drive decisions, Olave was candid in expressing his emotions about the situation. For Shaheed, the trade gives a fresh start with an offense that looks like it’ll be a playoff contender for a while.
When asked on the “Up & Adams” show about the dynamic between the two, the Saints standout offered insight into what the move signifies.
“Oh yeah, that’s my boy,” Olave said. “We came into the 2022 Draft class, but he was undrafted, though, but it was huge. It was tough when he got traded. He was like one of the best friends on the team. We’ve been through the fire together, and we have leaned on each other being 1-8.”
Olave further explained that they’re “professionals” at the end of the day and will have to navigate the gridiron without each other. “I’m excited for his new opportunity, though,” Olave said.

While the trade has already been completed, the former duo performed well despite the offensive change from former head coach Dennis Allen to Kellen Moore.
According to PFSN’s WR Impact rankings, Shaheed consistently put up a C grade this 2025 campaign. It’s far from spectacular, but it was enough to capture Seahawks head coach Mike McDonald.

Whatever happens for the rest of the season, the reaction from Olave shows that no matter where the two go, they will always share a deep bond. One or the other between the two was bound for a trade either way, as they’ve been linked to numerous rumors.
Shaheed, the latest to depart on an expiring contract, now has an opportunity to take on a larger role following his debut last week.
