Kansas City Chiefs DT Chris Jones made sure to put his family first, but now he knows it’s time for football. The 1-2 Chiefs host the 1-2 Baltimore Ravens in a crucial Week 4 matchup. Despite just attending his aunt’s funeral, CBS’s Tracy Wolfson provided a crucial update on his status heading into that game.
Chris Jones Expected to Arrive Just Minutes Prior to Chiefs vs. Ravens
Somehow, it seems like Jones is about to do the unthinkable. While he attended his aunt’s funeral in Mississippi, he’s scheduled to arrive in Kansas City in time for the game. If Jones makes it in time and is able to play, he will be a huge boost to what has been a rather lifeless start to the season for the Chiefs.
“I was told Chiefs DT Chris Jones is taking off from Mississippi now,” Wolfson said. “45-1 hr flight. Will have an escort to the stadium which should take about 15 minutes. Expected a little late for warmups but should be good to go for the game. Quick turnaround and def emotional few days for Jones.”

Earlier in the day, NBC Sports confirmed that Jones would land roughly 45 minutes before kickoff. ESPN’s Jeff Darlington has been on the case all day as Chiefs fans are keeping a close eye on the status of their three-time First-team All-Pro.
Jones, a six-time Pro Bowler, has five total tackles this season. He has a tackle in each of the Chiefs’ first three games. Last Sunday night, he recorded his first sack of the season against the New York Giants’ Russell Wilson. This week, he goes against Lamar Jackson, who earns an A- grade in PFSN’s QB impact.
Last year, Jones recorded three tackles against the Ravens as the Chiefs prevailed, 27-20. He was able to break through and sack Jackson once, something the Chiefs would love to have. Even if he doesn’t record a sack in Week 4, his presence gives Jackson something else to consider.
While what he’s doing isn’t something that’s never been done before, it’s undoubtedly going to take an incredible toll on his body. Attending a funeral and then immediately heading into a football game is not for the faint of heart. With everything he was dealing with off the field, Jones has to put it all behind him to go out there and help the Chiefs avoid a dreaded 1-3 start.
