Colts GM Chris Ballard Shares Update on Anthony Richardson Sr.’s Future Amid Search for Trade Partner

Indianapolis Colts GM Chris Ballard admits nothing has materialized in the Anthony Richardson trade market early this offseason.

Indianapolis Colts general manager Chris Ballard addressed the uncertainty surrounding quarterback Anthony Richardson Sr.’s future as the team continues to explore trade possibilities. During a conversation with Kay Adams on “Up & Adams” at the 2026 NFL Annual League Meeting in Phoenix, Ballard said the situation remains fluid and without resolution.

Why the Colts Are Being Patient in the Anthony Richardson Trade Market

The Colts have been in communication with Richardson’s representation as they explore potential landing spots, but Ballard emphasized that the process has not yet produced movement.

“We’ll see. I got with his agent … nothing has materialized at this point. So, we’ll see what happens going forward. I’m proud of Anthony. He’s had some bad luck, unfortunately.”

Indianapolis enters the offseason with a far more stable quarterback situation than it had a year ago. Daniel Jones, acquired in a move that initially drew skepticism, not only won the starting job over Richardson but delivered one of the strongest seasons of his career.

Jones finished the 2025 season with a PFSN NFL QB Impact score of 86.7, ranking fifth among all quarterbacks and solidifying his hold on the position.

That breakout season reshaped the depth chart and left Richardson in a difficult position. Once viewed as the franchise’s long-term answer, the former No. 4 overall pick has battled injuries and inconsistency, opening the door for Jones to take control of the offense. With Jones entrenched, the Colts have been transparent about their willingness to find Richardson a new opportunity, though Ballard stressed that the team will not force a deal.

“Anthony is a good young man, he’s a good teammate,” Ballard said. “When he didn’t win the job, that was kind of one of the cool things that came out of it. Watching him learn and be an unbelievable teammate, that was fun to watch.”

Ballard’s comments reflect the organization’s respect for Richardson’s professionalism and growth, even as his role diminished. The Colts have praised his maturity and presence in the locker room, traits that could appeal to teams seeking a developmental quarterback or a high-upside backup.

For now, the Colts remain patient as they monitor the market. Several quarterback-needy teams continue to evaluate their options, and interest could rise as the draft approaches or as offseason injuries inevitably reshape rosters. Still, Ballard reiterated that the team will prioritize value and fit over speed.

Richardson remains on the roster, Jones remains the starter, and the Colts continue to navigate one of the league’s more intriguing offseason storylines with a measured and deliberate approach.
