The Kansas City Chiefs had a dramatic fall from grace and suffered a Super Bowl hangover in 2025. The team missed the playoffs with a disappointing 6-11 record. In the offseason, they traded defensive back Trent McDuffie to the Los Angeles Rams.
With that move, the Chiefs could possibly land a new free agent cornerback.
Chiefs Predicted As FA Destination For Pro Bowl CB
Nahshon Wright was an amazing story for the Chicago Bears and the NFL in 2025. He had a career year that earned him a Pro Bowl berth. After being a third-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, he spent his first three seasons with the Dallas Cowboys.
Then, he spent one season with the Minnesota Vikings’ practice squad before signing with the Bears after the Vikings cut him last season. Although he was only set to be a depth piece, Wright was put into the starting role due to Chicago’s secondary being hit with the injury bug.
PFSN’s Jacob Infante predicted that the Chiefs, along with the New York Jets and Pittsburgh Steelers, could be potential landing spots for Wright this offseason. Per PFSN’s Infante, Wright’s “high-end ball skills will get him a starting job somewhere in 2026.”
In 2025, Wright finished with a 74.6 score on PFSN’s CB Impact metrics, ranking 61st among cornerbacks. Although his pass coverage was hit-or-miss, the turnovers Wright forced were one of the reasons the Bears got 11 wins. He justified his Pro Bowl campaign in Week 1 with a pick-six against division rival Minnesota Vikings.
The 6-foot-4-inch, 199-pound cornerback played a career-high 17 games with 11 passes defensed, 2 forced fumbles, a quarterback hit, and 5 interceptions.
From that point on, Wright showed no hesitation in taking the ball away. Infante adds, “Wright was hardly consistent in 2025; he allowed 8 touchdowns in coverage, drew 8 penalties, and allowed 64.5% of his targets to be completed. That said, he uses his frame and long wingspan to regularly make plays on the ball.”
The Bears have already made roster moves. One big move the team made was trading DJ Moore to the Buffalo Bills. Recently, the Chiefs traded McDuffie to the Los Angeles Rams for the No. 29 overall pick in this April’s 2026 NFL Draft, along with a couple of 2026 draft picks and a third-round pick for 2027.
The Chiefs’ secondary is likely to be very different in the offseason.
Also, Bryan Cook and Jaylen Watson are impending free agents. Wright could fit with the Chiefs as a veteran presence, and his wingspan and ball skills could be used in Steve Spagnuolo’s defense.
After finishing the season with an impact score of 79.4, ranking 11th overall per PFSN’s Defense Impact metrics, it remains to be seen if the Chiefs decide to pursue Wright in free agency.
