Patrick Mahomes is aiming to lead the Kansas City Chiefs back to the Super Bowl for the fourth straight time. While the team’s championship ambitions remain sky-high, questions linger about the reliability of their receiving corps, particularly with Skyy Moore’s uncertain future on the roster. Mahomes will need all his targets at their best, but Moore’s path to the 53-man roster is far from guaranteed.

Chiefs Insider Believes Skyy Moore Will Miss the Cut
Moore, 24, is entering the final season of his four-year, $6.45 million rookie contract. Last season, he saw limited action, appearing in six games with only three targets and zero catches.
This marked the first time in his career he finished without a reception, after posting 22 catches in his rookie year and 21 the following season. With 494 receiving yards and one touchdown over his career, Moore, a Western Michigan alum, faces stiff competition for a spot on the team.
Chiefs insider Charles Goldman has publicly doubted Moore’s chances of making the final cut. “I don’t think Moore makes the 53-man roster in 2025 because the competition at wide receiver is at a different level compared to years past,” Goldman said. “It’d take an epic training camp, preseason, and some unlucky injuries for him to make it as things currently stand. I do think he deserves a fair shot to prove himself, given that injury hampered his past two seasons.”

Goldman notes that Moore would rank 25th in salary cap hit if he makes the roster. Many fans have wondered why he remains on the team, but Goldman points out that Moore’s rookie contract is too valuable to move on from. After this season, however, the conversation could change.
Despite injuries that have tested the depth of the receiving group, Mahomes has other options to rely on. Rashee Rice is set to return after a breakout rookie season in 2023, when he racked up 938 receiving yards and seven touchdowns.
Rice’s yards per reception last season were on pace to surpass his rookie numbers, but he was limited to just four games due to injury. The 25-year-old will be a key piece for the Chiefs as they look to maintain their offensive firepower.
Rice will be joined by Xavier Worthy, who also made an impact in his rookie year. Worthy hauled in 59 of his 98 targets for 638 receiving yards and six touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Hollywood Brown, acquired late in the season, had limited production but was tied for the second-most targets in the Super Bowl, finishing with two catches for 15 yards. Travis Kelce remains an option, and Noah Gray enjoyed the best season of his career, providing Mahomes with even more reliable targets.
