Jawaan Taylor Under Fire After Drawing Penalty at Crucial Moment

The Chiefs entered Week 12 at 5–5, sitting third in the AFC West and facing a real risk of missing the playoffs for the first time in over a decade.

The Colts, surging behind quarterback Daniel Jones, came in at 8–2 and struck first at Arrowhead Stadium, with Jones connecting with Michael Pittman Jr. for the opening touchdown.

The Chiefs appeared ready to tie the game in the second quarter when Travis Kelce powered his way into the end zone. However, the score was wiped away after Taylor was flagged for grabbing the facemask of the Colts’ defensive end Kwity Paye.

Kansas City ultimately settled for a field goal, sparking a wave of frustration from fans on social media.

“Another drive-ruining penalty by Jawaan Taylor,” one fan wrote. Another fan sarcastically speculated that, “Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce must secretly hate Jawaan Taylor.”

Taylor has often been at the receiving end of making costly errors, and fans are now questioning his presence on the roster. “HOW IS JAWAAN TAYLOR STILL ON THIS ROSTER,” wrote one fan.

As the criticism mounted, calls for drastic action grew louder. One fan wrote, “Cut Jawaan Taylor. He is costing this team weekly.” Another frustrated fan wrote, “Get Jawaan Taylor off the field…. Please for the love of God.”

Taylor joined Kansas City in 2023 on a four-year, $80 million contract after spending the first four seasons of his career with the Jacksonville Jaguars. However, his performances have been far from what his salary suggests, and he has accumulated 13 penalties this season.

As a result, it’s not a surprise that many Chiefs fans want him out of the lineup. “Why isn’t Jawaan Taylor in federal prison?” Wrote one fan. “CUT JAWAAN TAYLOR NOW!” another fan demanded.

Despite Kansas City ranking as the fourth-best offensive line in the NFL according to PFSN’s Team OL Impact metric, Taylor has graded among the league’s weakest individual performers, sitting 150th out of 173 qualifying linemen in PFSN’s OL Impact metric.

With the Chiefs fighting to stay alive in the playoff race, every mistake becomes magnified, and Taylor’s latest miscue has only intensified the pressure. If the Chiefs lose this game, their playoff chances will drop to 22.8%, according to PFSN’s Playoff Predictor.
