The Kansas City Chiefs are undergoing a roster overhaul. They have lost core contributors such as cornerback Trent McDuffie but have added stars like Kenneth Walker III. Another player the Chiefs could target to strengthen their offense is Notre Dame wide receiver Malachi Fields.
Malachi Fields Is Projected as a Chiefs Draft Target
Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox said Fields would fit best with the Chiefs, who are in urgent need of a receiver.
“Teams looking for a big-bodied boundary receiver should be eyeing Notre Dame’s Malachi Fields,” Knox wrote.
“The 6’4″, 218-pound pass-catcher is a physical mismatch against most defensive backs. The former Virginia standout was productive at both college stops, showing an elite ability to high-point the football, out-position defenders, and pick up yards after the catch.”
The Chiefs need a receiver. They have Rashee Rice, who has performed well in the NFL but faces legal issues that cloud his future. They also have Xavier Worthy, who has been inconsistent. According to PFSN’s WR Impact Metric, he earned a C grade and ranked No. 47 and No. 59 the past two seasons.
Even if Worthy and Rice play consistently next year, Fields would add value with his size. Fields is 6’4″, while Worthy is 5’11” and Rice is 6’1″. Fields’ larger frame would provide variety to Kansas City’s offense
As Knox noted, Fields could also be a long-term option for the Chiefs. “Fields could continue being that gotta-have-it target after the 36-year-old Kelce decides to call it a career.” Fields’ size makes him a strong candidate for contested catches, pairing well with Patrick Mahomes’ arm strength.
With Mahomes and Fields’ physical abilities, they could excel on back-shoulder passes. For years, Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams thrived with this play, consistently challenging opposing defenses.
Another advantage for the Chiefs is that Fields could be available later in the draft. Using PFSN’s Mock Draft Simulator, Fields is ranked as the No. 131 prospect. In a mock draft scenario, the Chiefs could target him in Round 4 with pick 109, allowing them to select other impact players earlier, such as running back Jeremiyah Love and edge rusher Akheem Mesidor.
Fields also provides stability at the receiver position. As Knox noted, Fields recorded two 800-yard seasons at Virginia and averaged an impressive 17.5 yards per catch with Notre Dame in 2025. He projects as a dependable target for Mahomes in the years ahead.
Overall, Fields would be a strong addition for the Chiefs, not only for immediate impact but also for the team’s future.
