Chase Daniel Praises Ty Simpson, Identifies 5 NFL Teams That Must Draft Alabama Quarterback

Chase Daniel’s breakdown of Ty Simpson spotlights elite skills while naming five NFL teams, including the Steelers, as ideal fits.

Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson heads into the 2026 NFL Draft as one of the best shot-callers available in this year’s class. While many aren’t making much of the position group, Simpson might be overlooked as a player who could develop into a franchise star in the future.

Chase Daniel Highlights Ty Simpson’s High-Level QB Traits

Simpson spent a patient three years at Alabama before he was handed the reins in Tuscaloosa when Jalen Milroe left for the NFL. Simpson made the most of his junior year, recording 3,567 passing yards for 28 touchdowns and 5 interceptions. He ran head coach Kalen DeBoer’s offense with strong acumen, leading the Crimson Tide to a Rose Bowl appearance against Indiana.

The finer details of his overall play particularly drew Daniel’s attention, who spent 13 years in the NFL. The former quarterback broke down a play that Simpson made against Tennessee last season, emphasizing his accuracy.

“Alright, I’m sitting here, watching Ty Simpson film against Tennessee — they’re a top-15 team in the country — and this throw… There’s not a lot of college quarterbacks in this pocket that can make that throw,” Daniel said.

He analyzed a play in which Simpson maintained his composure in a collapsing pocket on his own goal line, dropping a 25-yard dime into tight man coverage.

“That is unbelievable,” he added. “You got a guy coming scott free — two guys coming scott free — you’re throwing to a receiver on a deep cross, and that is a perfectly thrown football. You can’t throw it any better than this. Whoever gets Ty Simpson, in my opinion, is going to get an absolute genius.”

In the retweet, he listed his favorite landing spots for the quarterback:

  • Jets
  • Cardinals
  • Rams
  • Vikings
  • Steelers

As things stand, the New York Jets are set to move forward with Geno Smith at quarterback. In what is a homecoming after a 10-year trip around the league, Smith rejoins the team that gave him his first shot in the NFL.

Bailey Zappe and Brady Cook are the other two quarterbacks on the roster, making New Jersey a reasonable destination for Simpson.

The Arizona Cardinals are cutting Kyler Murray, leaving them with a combination of Jacoby Brissett and Gardner Minshew to call the shots. Given how poorly the Brissett experiment went, who has a 73.5 score in PFSN’s NFL QB Impact Metrics, drafting Simpson shouldn’t be outside the realm of possibility.

The Los Angeles Rams have an aging franchise quarterback in Matthew Stafford and only one Georgia alum, Stetson Bennett, as backup. Perhaps another shot-caller from down South could secure their future.

The Minnesota Vikings might be a bit of a stretch, given that they picked up Murray to battle J.J. McCarthy for the starting job. Drafting another quarterback into that competition will really stir things up this offseason.

Finally, the Pittsburgh Steelers, for the moment, are waiting for Aaron Rodgers to decide on his future. If he doesn’t return, many expect young Will Howard to be the future at the position, making it unlikely that the front office will go through with a move like drafting Simpson.
