‘That’s Fair Game’ — Ex-NFL QB Defends Chargers For Taking Dig At Mike Vrabel-Dianna Russini In Schedule Release

What is there to be said for the witty shot that the Chargers took at the romantic scandal involving Mike Vrabel and Dianna Russini?

While the Arizona Cardinals drew significant criticism for their AI-generated schedule release video, the Los Angeles Chargers have been earning the NFL community’s approval. The Chargers, like every other team, made a themed schedule release video; however, the team’s social media team didn’t hesitate to take subtle shots at the scandal involving Mike Vrabel and Dianna Russini.

Chargers Earn Chris Simms’ Respect for Taking Shots at Mike Vrabel, Dianna Russini

The Chargers released a Halo-themed schedule video and included references to Vrabel and Russini, as the AFC West team will face the New England Patriots in Week 12. The video teased parts of the scandal and used phrases like “Next Photo Dump: 1 Mile” and “NYPost sent you a message.”

Former NFL quarterback Chris Simms weighed in on the Chargers’ witty video, claiming there’s nothing wrong with it. He spoke about it on “Pro Football Talk.”

“[The Chargers] did it tastefully,” he said on “Pro Football Talk.” “They didn’t cross the line. I think from that standpoint right there, that’s fair game — it definitely is. It’s like what we’ve talked about. It’s gone past the biggest story in the sport.”

The Vrabel-Russini scandal has dominated America for the past few weeks. There’s much to dissect about the controversy, and the Chargers threw their hat into the ring as the first NFL team to comment humorously on it.

“I mean, other than political news, it was the biggest story in the country for three weeks,” Simms added. “So, you know, it’s too low-hanging fruit for everybody to avoid, so I’m glad the Chargers kind of danced with a little danger.”

The referenced “photo dump” is the biggest part of the scandal. Secret photos and video footage have been continuously coming out, adding more and more detail to the alleged affair that went on for six years. Vrabel’s signed collector’s card, carrying the quote, “We won’t make critical mistakes,” sold for $750, with fans contrasting it with his scandalous relationship with Russini.

The Chargers are the first team to get in on the action, and what becomes of Vrabel’s career as the Patriots’ head coach remains to be seen. Russini, meanwhile, resigned from her position at The Athletic following the immense media scrutiny and speculation generated by the controversy.

Vrabel, on the other hand, has been the subject of much debate, as it pertains to his future in the league. While some commentators claimed he has lost his standing in the Patriots’ locker room, the team itself has stood by its coach, who led them to the Super Bowl last season.
