Wisconsin Badgers fans stormed the field in celebration after their 13-10 victory over Washington. This was head coach Luke Fickell’s first win in two months, as well as his first win against a power-conference team in over a year. They are currently 3-6.
Fickell’s victory over Washington was also his first win against an AP-ranked opponent as head coach. Ranked No. 24 in the AP Top 25 poll, according to PFSN’s playoff meter, Washington ranks No. 25 in college football’s power rankings.
Will Wisconsin Be Fined As Fans Storm the Field After Remarkable Win?
Following their 13-10 victory, Badger’s fans stormed the field in celebration. After SMU was fined last week for taking to the field after a win over Miami, fans have started to question whether Wisconsin will also suffer a similar fine and punishment.

According to Big Ten field storming regulations, the Badgers will not suffer any consequences for taking to the field against Washington. Unlike conferences such as the SEC and the ACC, the Big Ten does not immediately administer fines for storming the field.
“Unlike some other conferences, such as the SEC or ACC, the Big Ten does not immediately fine for field storming. First offense; a private reprimand, Second offense; a public offense, and Third offense; The conference can impose penalties and fines at it’s discretion.”
Before today’s win, Athletic Director Chris McIntosh announced that Fickell would stay on for 2026 as head coach. This decision led to backlash from fans, as many believed the Wisconsin head coach should have been gone a long time ago.
“To be honest with you, I did forget a little bit of what it was like to have that emotion and to see our guys with that emotion. … It is really good, not just for the soul. It’s good for the team, and it’s good for everybody.” Fickell stated after today’s win.
In November 2022, Fickell signed a seven-year extension. At the end of the 2025 season, the head coach will still have four years left on his contract. According to its terms, Fickell would be owed 80% of the $31.5 million remaining. This means Wisconsin would be on the hook for a buyout of approximately $25 million.
“I don’t ever want somebody to have to fight my battles, but I understand that that’s where we are. And I can’t say thank you enough to Chris for fighting the battle that he’s fighting and for Chancellor (Jennifer) Mnookin to listen and believe.” Fickell stated after the announcement.
After saving $25 million, despite demands from the fanbase, Wisconsin will instead choose to utilize that money to invest heavily in NIL and recruitment with Fickell as head coach. Last night’s win could potentially serve as the beginning of a turnaround for the head coach.
