Pitt Panthers standout running back Desmond Reid left the team’s Week 12 contest against Notre Dame with an apparent injury. Here’s the latest on his status and his outlook moving forward.
Desmond Reid Injury: Latest on Status of Pitt Panthers RB
Shortly after a 27-yard run — Pitt’s longest play of the game against Notre Dame — Reid went down with what appeared to be a left ankle injury, and was helped off the field by two teammates. He has not returned to the game since.

Reid missed Pitt’s Week 10 contest against Stanford with an injury as well, and used the bye week to recuperate before return to action against the Fighting Irish. That return proved to be relatively short-lived, as Reid touched the ball just 11 times, racking up 75 total yards.
A senior who transferred to Pitt from Western Carolina in 2024, Reid eclipsed 1,500 total yards from scrimmage in his first season with the Panthers. He caught 52 passes for 579 yards and four scores in addition to almost 1,000 yards on the ground, and returned a punt for a touchdown as well.
At 5’8″, 175 pounds, Reid has been renowned on the college football stage as one of the league’s most dynamic multi-phase playmakers — and one of Pitt’s best players on either side of the ball. He’s also received NFL Draft interest, and is viewed as a potential mid-round pick.
Reid’s loss is a major blow for Pitt, and could have additional ramifications if it’s an extended absence past the Notre Dame game.
If Reid returns to action against the Fighting Irish, or if he’s officially ruled out, this article will be updated accordingly.
