Where Do Army And Navy Stand Heading Into Tonight’s Game?
Army comes into today’s matchup with a 6-5 overall record and 4-4 in conference play, sitting at No. 93 in the PFSN CFB Meter this season. The Black Knights stumbled out of the gate by losing three of their first four games, but have bounced back with a 5-2 mark in their last seven games.
The Black Knights are averaging 23 points per game on offense this season. On the defensive side, the Black Knights are giving up 22.5 points per game (47th-ranked).
Meanwhile, Navy will enter the game after a 28-17 win over Memphis on Nov. 27, finishing 9-2 overall and 7-1 in AAC action. The Midshipmen are ranked No. 48 in the PFSN CFB Meter. They have a chance to make history today, as a win would give them back-to-back 10-win seasons for the first time in program history.
Navy has been among the nation’s best in third-down efficiency, ranking 12th in the FBS with a 49.6% conversion rate. Defensively, the school ranks 88th, allowing a 40.7% conversion rate on third downs.
Navy leads the all-time series against Army 63-55-7, dating back to 1890, and won last year’s meeting 31-13. However, Army has a 2-1 advantage in the past three games, with Navy scoring 59 points to Army’s 50 over that span.
Navy coach Brian Newberry is taking nothing for granted ahead of the game.
“It’s the same Army team we see every year in terms of the physicality, the toughness, the fight,” Newberry said. “They’re a really disciplined football team. I think we’re in a good place, a team that’s peaking at the right time. Hopefully we’re playing our best football on Saturday.”
Following today’s game, both programs have bowl games scheduled: Army will face UConn in the Fenway Bowl on Dec. 27, while Navy takes on Cincinnati in the Liberty Bowl on Jan. 2.
