Former Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson is widely expected to be the second quarterback off the board after Indiana Hoosiers star Fernando Mendoza. Simpson’s draft stock has fluctuated wildly in several mock drafts, with the polarizing quarterback’s 15 starts in college football used as an argument against picking him in the first round.
Analyst Links Former Alabama QB Ty Simpson to $10.7 B NFL Team
The 2026 NFL Draft class is light on quarterback talent, and the return of Dante Moore to Oregon and Trinidad Chambliss to Ole Miss has further boosted Simpson’s stock.
During Saturday’s segment of the “NFL Draft Daily” show, analyst Louis Riddick linked Simpson with a move to the $10.7 billion valued Los Angeles Rams (according to CNBC) on draft night.
“I know personally [the Rams] like Ty Simpson. When you look at his skillset and you think about his makeup, that’s exactly what they’re looking for,” Riddick said.
Simpson was a backup in Tuscaloosa for three seasons before winning the QB1 battle last season and leading the Crimson Tide to an 11-4 record, while leading them to the SEC championship game and a place in the College Football Playoff.
Analyst Hypes Up Simpson’s Draft Stock
During Friday’s segment of the “Rich Eisen Show,” analyst Tom Pelissero hyped up Simpson’s NFL value based on his talent and detailed why he is being underestimated in several mock drafts.
“The second QB going into this is clearly Ty Simpson from Alabama,” Pelissero said. “Not seeing Ty Simpson’s name in a lot of those mock drafts. I would be surprised if Simpson doesn’t go in the first round. I don’t think he gets out of round one. Because there are too many teams that need a QB. There’s tape of Simpson doing a lot of things that NFL QBs do.
“In terms of under center, running play action, turning his back to the line of scrimmage. The way last season ended was not ideal for Simpson. He also was sick the back half of last season, he lost a bunch of weight. He has a skillset and a knowledge of offense that is gonna serve him well.”
The talented Simpson started the season with Alabama on fire, before tailing off as the Crimson Tide struggled toward the end of the season, as they limped to a College Football Playoff berth.
He earned a PFSN College QB Impact score of 85.4 after tallying 3,567 passing yards, resulting in 28 touchdowns and 5 interceptions, while adding 93 rushing yards and 2 scores.
