Trinidad Chambliss’ Potential Move to Lane Kiffin’s LSU Draws Strong Verdict

Speculation rises over QB Trinidad Chambliss possibly following Lane Kiffin to LSU, but Ole Miss seems poised to keep its star signal-caller in Oxford.

Speculation surrounding Trinidad Chambliss’ future intensified after a video surfaced on a YouTube sports show in Baton Rouge, called “After Further Review: LSU”,  discussing the possibility of the star quarterback following Lane Kiffin to LSU. This is all speculation, based on the assumption that Chambliss was to receive an additional year of eligibility.

While the idea immediately sparked debate, the verdict presented in the video leaned firmly against the move happening, favoring Ole Miss’ ability and willingness to keep its centerpiece quarterback in Oxford.

LSU Fit Makes Sense

On the surface, the fit between Chambliss and LSU appears logical. Chambliss thrived in Kiffin’s offensive system this past season, grading out at an elite 90.3 in PFSN’s CFB QB Impact Grade, good for fifth-best in the nation among all quarterbacks.

His production and command of the offense made him one of the most efficient and impactful players in college football, and LSU, coming off an underwhelming offensive year, could certainly use that level of play.

However, the video argues that LSU is not operating from a place of desperation. While the Tigers could theoretically match any NIL offer Ole Miss might present, they are already linked to several top quarterback options, including Sam Leavitt and Brendan Sorsby.

With alternatives on the table, LSU is unlikely to commit fully to a lengthy and potentially complicated eligibility situation, which could result in them waiting longer than they would like, anyway, in case they miss out on other top options.

This would be especially challenging, as it would require prying him away from a rival conference foe, and he has been a program-defining player for the Ole Miss Rebels.

Ole Miss Would Never Let Lane Kiffin Have Him

From Ole Miss’ perspective, the incentive to retain Chambliss could not be stronger. The Rebels’ offense posted an 85.2 PFSN Impact Grade in 2025, ranking 13th nationally, and that success was largely driven by Chambliss’ performance.

The question isn’t whether Ole Miss could match or exceed that mark in 2026, but whether doing so becomes significantly harder without Kiffin and offensive coordinator Charlie Weis Jr., both of whom are headed over to join LSU.

Even with those departures, Ole Miss is unlikely to let Chambliss walk, assuming the extra year of eligibility is granted. His legacy in Oxford continues to grow with each College Football Playoff victory, most notably the recent quarterfinal upset of No. 2 Georgia.

Performances like that elevate a quarterback from star to legend, and programs rarely allow players of that stature to leave without exhausting every possible option to keep them.

For LSU, the pursuit of Kiffin underscores just how much help the Tigers need on offense. LSU graded out at a below-average 74.8 offensively, ranking 75th nationally in 2025, a stark contrast to the explosive units Kiffin has consistently produced.

While adding Chambliss would be a massive boost, the Tigers may ultimately decide that flexibility, depth, and long-term stability outweigh the pursuit of a single player, even one as proven as Chambliss.

Ultimately, while the hypothetical pairing of Chambliss and Kiffin at LSU is compelling, the prevailing sentiment is that Ole Miss holds the upper hand. If Chambliss gets that extra year, keeping him in Oxford remains the most realistic outcome, even as LSU continues its search for offensive reinforcements elsewhere.
