Five-star cornerback John Meredith has long been considered one of the very best players in the 2027 recruiting class. He lists more than 30 college offers, including Texas A&M, Oregon, Miami, Texas Tech, Georgia, Alabama, Ohio State, Texas, and SMU.
As Meredith has scheduled several official visits to take a closer look at those programs, let’s see the top 3 schools with the best odds in his recruitment.
Top 3 Schools Trending for John Meredith’s Commitment
3) Texas
Meredith had back-to-back visits to Austin this month and came away impressed.
“I missed practice, I came for the meetings, but I had to come back the next week to check out practice,” Meredith told Horns247. “That was definitely worth it.”
Meredith will meet with Texas on June 5. If he commits to the Longhorns, he will be the second five-star prospect in the class, joining wide receiver Easton Royal. Steve Sarkisian has nine committed players in the cycle.
2) Alabama
Meredith received the offer from Alabama in February, 2025, and the Crimson Tide has been strong in his recruitment since then. He was in Tuscaloosa for Junior Day and will get another closer look at Kalen DeBoer’s program on May 29.
Steve Wiltfong of On3 said in February that Alabama is one of Meredith’s top 2 schools. He would be the highest-rated player in Alabama’s 2027 class if he committed to the class. The Crimson Tide has five committed players in the class, but lacks a cornerback commit.
1) Texas A&M
Texas A&M remains the top contender in Meredith’s recruitment, with the Rivals Prediction Machine giving the Aggies a 95.2% chance of securing his commitment. He mentioned the Aggies as “family” in February and is scheduled to take an official visit to Texas A&M on June 12.
Texas A&M has 12 committed players in the 2027 class, and eight of these Aggies’ current commitments play on the defensive side of the ball. Mike Elko’s this class features the top two safeties in the country, No. 1 Kamarul Dorsey and No. 2 JayQuan Snell.

Besides Meredith, Texas A&M is seen as a top contender in several elite prospects’ recruitment, including five-star players like interior offensive linemen Albert Simien and Kennedy Brown, as well as Edge Zyron Forstall, linebacker Kaden Henderson, offensive tackle Oluwasemilore Olubobola, wide receiver Eric McFarland, and cornerback Raylaun Henry.
Under Elko, Texas A&M’s secondary vastly improved during the 2025 season, securing the No. 6 spot nationally in the PFSN College Football Defense Impact Metric. If the Aggies can land Meredith, it will be another big thing for their defense in future.
Whether it’s Texas A&M, Alabama, or Texas, whoever lands Meredith will be a big winner. The five-star prospect was chosen for this year’s Under Armour All-American Game.
He is the No. 1 cornerback in the 2027 class and the No. 2 recruit in the nation, according to the Rivals Industry Ranking. He has also competed in track, running 21.74 in the 200 meters as a sophomore.
